@JoJoGirl: R loves Mum Mums, try those too. They are great cause they can hold them themselves. We tried Cheerios and she doesn't like them. Seriously, what kid doesn't like Cheerios.

@looch: Nope, not crawling, and not even really sitting up on her own yet (she's a week shy of 6 months now, so not sure where she'll be in 5 weeks when we leave). Dish soap is a good call, thanks!

@PrincessBaby: Oooh I've never even heard of those - we are just starting solids in the last week or two so snacks never occurred to me!

ETA: LO is MSPI so I don't think we can give her yogurt :(

@JoJoGirl: when we fly and my LO gets fussy, I keep yogis snacks on hand and pop those in her mouth and she will settle down/get distracted by the snack. She is a Yogi Monster though, so this may just be her, but I always keep them everywhere I can so if we're somewhere and she starts to fuss I can just give her some of those:). They dissolve immediately and taste really good so even if she doesn't have teeth they still work (my LO still has no teeth)... So snacks can help you if things get intense and you can't get up or do anything in your seat!

Is she crawling? I used to just plop my son on a towel, worked fine.

One other thing I would add is a power strip and an adaptor for your plug in stuff.

Also a small bottle of dish soap!

Shameless bump to ask another question: where do you guys put your LOs down when you go away? Now we either put her in her Bumbo, bouncy chair, or on her playmat... we can't bring any of those things, so not sure what we can use to secure her.

@mrsjyw: Can you send me a link? We'll also check our stroller at the gate (and need to procure an umbrella stroller before then since we don't have one). And car seat is just too cumbersome to bring and she haaaaates it.

@mrsjyw: Oooh a high chair. We definitely can't fit one of those in our luggage. Hmmm. I wonder if the hotel will have one?

Just ordered an inflatable bathtub online - we thought of that last night, good idea. One can only hope she'll sleep on the plane!!!! We're going to be waking the poor kid up at 3am on the day of our departure so I'm terrified she'll be in exhausted/cranky mode. Hopefully wearing her will fix that :(

@JerricaBenton: We aren't buying her a seat.. international flight so I don't think we even could? Or we would've had to pay full price for it (I can't remember). Oy I didn't even think of the fact that we'll need a diaper bag in addition to all our other normal international flight carry-ons. Oh man, I'm getting so overwhelmed!

@JoJoGirl: changing diapers on the plane wasn't so bad! The table came down over the toilet and its so tight in there, there isn't much room for LO to roll around. The puppy pads were a lifesaver if you're a germ freak because you can just get rid of them instead of putting dirty stuff back in your bag.

Also, if you're buying a seat for LO remember that you can bring another carry on! I had a good sized bag for myself in addition to a big diaper bag for LO.

we went to myrtle beach with our 8.5 month old.

we checked our stroller at the gate. we didn't bring our carseat (but will next time as the one from the rental place was bleh).

for the flight: snacks, soundless toys, ipod toy, NEW toys he hadn't seen. nursed on the way up/down (slept the entire flight). we also brought waters over security with no problem!

for the room/sleep: we brought our own crib sheet, lovey, sound machine, video camera/monitor.

for the bath: we brought a blow up floating, new bath toys, and all our usual lotions/dipe creams/etc.

for food: BF and we bought food when we got there at the grocery store. i was able to make food and also get him his baby snacks as we were in a condo and in the states. we also brought a travel high chair

for pool/beach: our resort had huge umbrellaed beach chair areas available, so we just brought a floaty with canopy (life saver for the pool!) and DS loved it!, lots of sun screen, baby powder to get sand off baby at the beach, rash guard/swim trunks (2)

enjoy!!!

We travelled to the beach when LO was 7 months old as well. I brought sheets, lovey/blanket, sound maching, monitor (we had a two bedroom condo), sunscreen, swim tube thing, hats, sunglasses, etc. We bought a cheap umbrella and large towel for the beach when we got there. I thought it was a great age to travel. If you aren't BF, be sure to bring something for LO to suck on during the plane ride. I was a human pacifier for a good portion of our trip-ouch!

@JoJoGirl: I think cabs are exempt from car seat usage, so you should be fine holding on your lap legally...if you are comfortable with it is a whole different story. I have only done super short distances in cars without car seats in NYC and my heart is in my throat the entire time.

We just took a 6 hr flight with LO who's 8 months. We took her infant seat on the plane and brought our travel system stroller. We gate checked the stroller and I got a stroller bag on Amazon to keep it safe and clean. I nursed her through take off and landing but I'd bring a bottle or sippy cup too. I brought an inflatable My Brest Friend, which was awesome. I got two new toys to introduce on t he plane but we also had her lovey on the plane. Bring a change of clothes for travel days just in case. We brought puppy peepee pads to use as disposable changing pads. That worked great because airport bathrooms are pretty grimy. We used the hotel pack n play but I brought my own mattress pad and sheets. If your LO hasn't worn sunscreen yet, try it on at home to make sure there's no reaction. We brought towels and wash cloths too. If you're renting a car you might want to bring a sun shade for the window.

We're going on a beach vacay tomorrow with our almost 8 month old! I'm bringing a pop-up beach tent that @Mrs. High Heels: recommended. Also a swimming seat thing with canopy (it was a gift and still flat). Lots of baby-safe sunscreen!

As for the hotel stuff: lovey, our own crib sheet, sound machine.

Have fun!!!

How long is long? 6 hours? The flight isn't the hard part, it is the transit to the airport that sucks IMO.

That's a great age for travel. Don't forget sleep accessories- I usually end up taking their lovey/noise machine in my carry on.

We're headed to visit my family in the Caribbean next month. I would add some bug repellent to your list.

Beach. Babies. Win.

I hear that talc powder/baby powder helps get sand off. Probably easier on their skin, btw

I know there are some threads already out there about traveling with LOs, but thought I'd start a new one since more people have done it!

We're going to a Caribbean island in December; LO will be 7 months old. I'm terrified of the LOOONG flights.

Any tips? Packing lists for what to bring? The hotel is providing a crib so we don't need a PnP. We have a rashguard shirt and swim diaper, not sure if she needs a suit too. Sun hat, sunscreen, baby powder for sand...

TIA!
