Your prenatal did not cause your miscarriage. you should really discuss the differences between folate and folic acid with your doctor to see what they recommend for you.

Folic acid vs folate shouldn't matter unless you carry a MTHFR mutation. If that's the case then the body cannot absorb the synthetic folic acid so you would need to take folate instead.

I'm pretty sure every OB/GYN recommends you take a prenatal with folic acid, but there are times (people who don't know they were pregnant) where people did not take prenatals or folic acid. But I believe the general consenus is you should take some prenatal vitamin which usually has folic acid in it.

Yeah, I agree with @Mrs. Pickle: Sometimes, there aren't reasons why you miscarried. Having been through IF, I still don't know why my fertility treatments didn't work. Being pregnant is truly a miracle and I hope you are pregnant soon.

Folic acid isn't bad except it is the synthetic form of folate. Folate is just a lot more easily assimilated and so if you can find a vitamin with it (I use Garden of Life Raw Prenatals) I highly recommend it.

No, folic acid isn't bad. It's beneficial to the baby's development.

http://www.m.webmd.com/baby/folic-acid-and-pregnancy

ETA: I understand what it's like to be paranoid after a loss. Just remember nothing you did caused your miscarriage.

Obviously it's better to be eating a diet rich with folate, but is folic acid bad? I've come across some articles that say folic acid can't be absorbed by the body? Or can't be processed?

When I was starting to TTC, I took Centrum Prenatal with Folic Acid and DHA. After not getting pregnant for about 6 months, I stopped. I got pregnant on month 16. I started the prenatals again and miscarried.

I know they're probably not related, but I need confirmation and clarity on whether or not a vitamin can be harmful/bad for a pregnancy.

Should I keep taking it If I am pregnant? Part of me just want to forego it to be on the safe side.

I know. I'm paranoid.
