My husbands co workers wife made two meals. Once day she dropped of hot and ready to go chilli with nachos.

The next time DH stopped on his way home and picked up ready to eat chicken, homemade bread, salad and soup!!! It was sooo good.

Another friend brought over lasagne.... But her and her husband stayed to eat too. Haha. It was fine though.

We also got frozen chilli and soup from my neighbour and those were delish!

My friends were so sweet to bring food when they came over but it tended to be heavy on the carbs and no veggies and I was dying for a salad for weeks. Washing and chopping vegetables for a fresh salad with a newborn in the house seems like the most daunting task I could ever imagine!

Chicken schnitzel tenders, a pack of flat bread wraps and salad fillings. Easy to put together, they last a few days in the fridge, and they can be mixed up for different flavours

Most of my favorite go to have been listed, but I like to start with a standard oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe and make these substitutions so they are heartier and halfway between a snack/lactation cookie and a treat cookie:
Swap half the butter for peanut butter for protein
Add a dollop of blackstrap molasses for trace minerals
Decrease sugar by 1/4-1/3
Add a pinch more of salt
Add 1/4 c flax seeds
Swap chocolate chips for mini chocolate chips
Replace 1/3-1/2 chocolate chips with sliced almonds (same texture as oatmeal but more protein)
Careful not to overbake
They're always a big hit.

@tinyperson: My SIL sent us one when my son was born and it was the BEST. I'm planning on sending one to my sis when she has her baby!

@Mrs. Goose: Pasta salad is a great idea.
@pachamama: I think a hearty soup is the way I'm going to go! And some fresh bread like @wrkbrk: suggested!
@brownepiano: Good point. I actually did ask if she had any requests and she said no, so I'm just making what I think sounds good and hoping she likes it!@Mrs. D: That's what I'm thinking-it might be nice for her to get something fresh and different!

Thanks again ladies! I'm saving this page for inspiration!

I wish people had, but everyone knew I"d been "Freezer" cooking for the last few months, so they probably figured we were set. But honestly, food someone else made would have made it last longer, and have been different.

We got a lot of chicken and veggies and casseroles. But my favorite was the people who asked what we wanted and brought us pizza. I was sick of "healthy" food and wanted pizza or sushi. But we were brought so much food we didn't have to order take out so maybe that's why I wanted pizza.

I would love to eat a pasta salad or another cold meal or salad because that would be quick and easy. So something I could grab from the fridge whenever would be great.

-Tabbouleh
-Hummus and pita bread
-Rice salad with feta and lots of veggies
-Pasta salad
-Quinoa salad with chopped spinach, roasted corn, peppers, feta and a lemon juice/oil dressing
-Lactation boosting cookies even if they aren't nursing. I made myself some and kept them in the freezer and they were hearty little bready snacks that I ate a lot when I didn't have time or hands to cook.

I bring non-dinner foods. I make quick breakfast or lunch or snack things to grab during the day.

Lactation cookies
Ants on a log
Hard boiled eggs
Baby carrots with hummus
Ham and cheese and turkey and cheese sandwiches on hearty bread, but dry with no condiments, wrapped in foil, so they last.
Fresh cut fruit that's easy to eat like chunks of pineapple, hulled strawberries, grapes, and watermelon slices.
Muffins or banana bread.
Trail mix or GORP with chocolate chips
Bagels and cream cheese

If I do bring dinner, I like bringing a mellow curry with a pot of long grain rice. Trader Joe's frozen jasmine rice packages are great for this type of thing. This recipe is good - I use cubed boneless skinless chicken thighs so it's easier to eat and add some veg into the pot like carrots or zucchini or green beans so it's well rounded.

http://www.thewednesdaychef.com/the_wednesday_chef/2012/02/nigel-slaters-chicken-curry.html

Oh and I ALWAYS bring a big package of disposable plates, utensils, and napkins. Ain't nobody got time for dishes.

I like bringing chicken pot pie, spinach and mushroom enchiladas or baked ziti. I use PW's turkey pot pie recipe subbing chicken and Smitten Kitchen's baked ziti. I usually add a bagged salad, rice crispy treats and a bottle of wine. I also like bringing fruit salad and muffins if they've got some support for suppers.

My best friend brought me a whole bunch of individually wrapped homemade freezer burritos after my second, which was amazing for one-handed meals

My favorite was a big pan of chicken kabobs and roasted vegetables. I really appreciated the veggies because the majority of the food we had was meat and carb casseroles.

Another good one was bean-and-taco-meat stuffed peppers that were individually wrapped in foil so we could freeze and pull out just what we needed.

Still sort of casserole like but my friend brought Mac and cheese cups (basically baked in a muffin tin instead of casserole dish) and they were awesome. Ate some cold right way, microwaved, then froze the rest and was able to just pull out a couple at a time as needed. She even mixed in some veggies and sausage. I love things that don't require any assembly and you can freeze but take out single servings.

Another friend made lentil stew and bought nice bread and separated into two so I could take out half at a time.
