Haven't thrown up for a few hours! My LO is taking an unusually long nap, going on 2.5 hours, bless her heart. I was able to get a small nap in which helped me feel a little better and less like death warmed over.

Also, if you can, try to nurse or pump more than normal. That will help keep your supply up while you're sick.

Hope you feel better soon!

Hope you feel better! I agree, eat and drink anything you can keep down... Luckily, these things usually pass quickly so it sounds like you are on the upswing!

I had the stomach bug when DS was 6-7 weeks old (and going through a growth spurt :bummed: ). I got sick every 20mins from 6am until 2pm when I finally got some zofran. I was still BF even though not very much was coming out, we had to give DS a bottle of milk that I had pumped beforehand. However, the next day when I could rehydrate, my supply came right back up!

I hope you feel better!

*hugs*

There are really very few meds you actually have to pump and dump for - you'd be fine to take gravol (ginger gravol?) or pepto and continue to nurse. http://www.motherisk.com is a great resource to let you know what you can and can't take while sick and nursing.
The good news is, that the antibodies to whatever you have are in your milk, making it less likely that baby will get what you have.

Hope you feel better soon!

@abbydabbydoodlebug: @T.H.O.U.: Side note. True peppermint actually depletes your supply. It's actually used to help woman with oversupply to decrease their milk production. So don't go that route.

Ginger is a good one. I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you for all the suggestions. Dh got ginger ale and a ton of pedialite and Gatorade. My sister (a nurse) said to mix the pedialite and Gatorade and put lots of ice in it and to sip it. I just ate a piece of toast with a little pb on it. Seems to be OK in my tummy. I have applesauce that I'm going to attempt later.

It actually might not be food poisoning after all. Just got a phone call from my MIL that she and FIL both got sick yesterday with what we have. So it might be a stomach bug. I hope LO doesn't get it! :(

Oh god, I'm sorry. That sounds awful. I always go to Gatorade, but I usually do something like half water, half gatorade (I had a teacher in high school who was a firefighter as well, who said that was best for rehydrating, and it stuck with me). Little sips, and nibble on some saltines as well. I would say if your supply does take a hit, try not to worry too much about it, supplement if you have to, and work on building it back up once you are feeling a little bit better.

I had the stomach bug for one day and trying to breastfeed on top of that was so hard. Side lying nursing saved me since I was getting nauseous sitting up.

Pedialite for sure and take sips until your body stops throwing up. Eat a little plain white bread to give you some energy. I remember living on Gatorade and white bread for a few days when I gave myself food poisoning (yeah...) many years back. Wish I had drank Pedialite though b/c it has less sugars, I think. Hope you feel better soon.

ALSO - if you pump or supplement, consider taking pepto and pumping and dumping for like one day, it might be worth it to get to back on track.

I had a bad case when my girl was little. Thank God for my freezer stash because I had to take Cipro and stop BFing for 5 days. You are right, you need to stay hydrated -- ANYTHING you can drink. I got so dehydrated I was getting disoriented and the doctor made me swear to go home and drink 2 liters of ANYTHING or he would put me in the hospital. Try coke, that is good for settling the stomach!

Im sorry. You are right to just try to keep as much liquids as possible. Remember small sips (like an ounce at a time) is best. Maybe ask him to pick up some peppermints or gum because that can help calm the stomach. And maybe some pretzels for some bland stuff to coat the stomach?

So I'm having terrible food poisoning today. It started last night and hasn't stopped yet. I'm worried about my supply since I can't eat or drink much. I know I'm dehydrated because I have a headache. I'm sending my DH to the store for pedialite and Gatorade. Is there anything else I should get/do?
