@shopaholic: I season our ground beef with chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic powder, corriander, fennel, pepepr, basil - obviously not all together, different combinations for different meals

Hmm! Sounds like I just need to go ahead and add more seasonings. But I don't cook many "meals" for us since DH is rarely home for meals. So I eat out a lot and tend to eat salty, spicy, or other foods I just don't think are baby-appropriate yet. I've given her some table foods, but I'd rather prep her more of her own foods I can store and save.

It's just hard to think of how to season ground meat or fish without salt? It just tastes really bland to me? I've used garlic powder and lemon juice. Any other ideas?

He's always eaten what we have, herbs and spices included. I have tried to cut back on the amount of salt I cook with and just put it on the table, because D and I like salt a lot.

M loves foods with lots of flavor. I'm careful about salt, but she can have some. She loves chilis and mexican food. She won't eat eggs unless I scramble them with salsa!

We've added seasoning to her food since day 1 and from the start she's definitely been more interested in better flavored foods vs. bland/under-seasoned foods

The BLW cookbook goes into detail about avoiding salt and sugar. Other than those, we plan to add whatever seasonings we'd want in our own foods when we start solids next month.

I'll use a little bit. No salt or sugar ever, no pre-packaged condiments. I haven't really tried anything too spicy. She definitely seems to enjoy seasoned food a little more. She loves a drop of olive oil mixed into veggies.

I do everything but salt and sugar. I just stopped cooking with salt and my husband and I salt our food at the table. My DD eats everything and seems to really prefer "our" food to bland baby food. Last night she had turkey curry.

we generally avoid salt and sugar, and give her whatever else. Of course somethings have salt in them- but I don't add it when I cook. I was shocked to discover at 7 months that she loves hummus. Girl eats it by the spoonful, even strong tasting hummus! I made a pretty strong ginger-carrot soup last week and she ate an adult sized portion.
Some things have been less successful- for some reason Mexican spiced foods bother her, but the heat from Indian spices doesn't seem to.

I use pretty much any spices on LOs food, our pedi told us it was fine starting at 6 months. I do use salt sparingly as well.

She eats our leftovers all the time, so whatever we use. If I cook chicken or veggies just for her. I use a little salt and pepper. DH made sweet potatoe fries Sunday night and went heavy heavy on the pepper, so I did scrap some off when breaking up pieces for R.

When he started eating more table foods - we never really cooked anything separate for him. We almost never add salt to anything, though. We use plenty of other spices and he loves hot, spicy stuff!

Since he started eating real food and not just purées. We don't really cook separate for him. He eats what we eat so he's had everything pretty much. A little spicy doesn't bother him either.

M has cinnamon on oatmeal and yogurt and I use garlic powder, paprika, onion, etc. when cooking, so she's had those too. I don't use salt though.

We don't do salt at all, but he eats what we eat so.. he eats everything now! 6-8 months he ate more of his 'own' food and loved cinnamon, garlic, oregano, basil, lemon.

So far I've used garlic, onion powder, and Himalayan pink salt (sparingly). I think herbs are fine too!

On salt (specifically unrefined salt) for babies- http://freshbabybites.com/2012/10/salt/

hmm.. she's been eating what we eat since about 6/7 months -- I used to throw our dinner in the blender and puree it for her!

I guess that means she's been eating spices like garlic for a long time!

When did you start adding seasonings to your LOs foods? So far, I've only added a bit of cinnamon to butternut squash. She's also had some seasonings with table food I give her, but DH is concerned about any added salt or sugar.

I am poaching fish for her right now and added some garlic powder. None of the recipes suggest adding salt, but some did mention pepper.
