I ate street food (in Mexico, GASP!!) while I was pregnant. The only time I've gotten REALLY sick was from a pretty good restaurant (not while pregnant). So, go figure.

I think it's ok! I think it depends from truck to truck though. Use your eyes and nose and make a gut decision ;-) Some of the halal trucks I'm not so sure of, but I'm also not a fan of the food so I might be biased.

@mrs lemon-lime, our food trucks always gather in public areas....where there are public bathrooms. They still have to follow health code rules

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: depending on the law of where they can park, most probably use the buildings they are there to serve. My husband runs one. He plans his day out and knows where he can go. If its a food truck court they are required to have bathrooms for customers so he will use those.

Smart...for anyone. Where do the lunch truck folks use the bathroom?

Edit: I eat from them, enjoy them, but wonder where they go pee and poo.

I went to my favorite, entirely trusted, taco truck almost every day when I was pregnant. I usually ordered vegetarian food to help ease my mind, but I really did trust them completely.

I live in Portland, and food cart culture is huge here. I eat at them all the time. It would never occur to me to think that they'd be less safe than a restaurant.

Why not? The food trucks I go to have higher health ratings than most restaurants!

Paranoid :) there was a report in my area and all the food trucks did way better than the brick and mortar shops for food safety

Paranoid... Food trucks are held to the same food safety standards as restaurants, and in fact, might be safer because everything is usually cooked to order or at least reheated to order. You could just as easily get food poisoning from a 5 star restaurant as you can from a food truck.

My pregnant self almost grabbed lunch at a food truck in Manhattan today, then thought better of it. Smart or paranoid?
