@LovelyPlum: thanks I hadnt seen that! I think Fiona's problem is not the spoon so much as spoon=food. Which she just doesn't care about. If I try to feed her with a spoon she just ignores me and if I hand her the spoon she does what she does with everything--- wave it around in the air (knocking all the food off) then chews on just the spoon. Lol

@Mae: what the heck, can't hurt to try, right?? And I bet G would love drinking out of shot glasses. She is obsessed wiyh my water glass.

Also, have you seen this? Not quite the same as what you're going through, but you might find it helpful nonetheless. There are some good suggestions here for things to try:

@LovelyPlum: I haven't. She isn't really a big fan of the spoon (with pouches she prefers to just take puree out of the spout lol). But I could maybe put some broth in a shot glass and help her drink it. Tiny weirdo loves drinking out of shot glasses.

@Mae: one other thought-have you tried soup? G loves soup. I've made potato leek, which she really likes, and she is obsessed with chicken broth. Any time I make/eat chicken soup, I give her spoonfuls of broth. She can't get enough!

Another vote for puffed cereals! You can get plain puffed millet and puffed rice at Whole Foods.

Also, another vote for Happy Creamies! They don't have added sugar (though they do use juice to sweeten).

@Mae: Lucy's MSPI is like the only reason I had to finally figure out how to cook and eat well, right there with you! And I never have luck with carrots either! I like to do slices of zucchini and squash (little olive oil and salt) at 375 for about 30 minutes. We have a crinkle cutter too which makes the texture fun. Lots of times though I would just Google how to roast a certain veggie. Potatoes, squash, zucchini, acorn squash, mushrooms...all yummy! Sweet potatoes too when she can handle them (we had trouble with those too then one day she did just fine).

@Mrs. Deer: great suggestions! I haven't tried roasting anything because I don't really know how to do that. I tried baking carrot sticks but they got a super funky texture. Embarrassing confession alert: I"m basically a child myself and hate cooked vegetables. I think they taste disgusting. So I don't/haven't ever made them-- so I don't know how (and also don't know how to judge if they are good!). I should try harder to figure that stuff out.

@Mae: sorry if any of these have been suggested already:

- toast (Dave's Killer Bread is dairy/soy free) with some Earth Balance butter (just made of oils).
- TJ'S has some rice puffs and vegetable chips (look like French fries) that are crunchy and MSPI approved.
- cereals - TJ's has some corn puff cereals that might be good to munch on.
- crackers - again, I like TJ's round crackers that look just like Ritz.
- and have you tried roasting veggies? Sometimes raw is too crunchy and cooked is to slimey, but roasted is a great texture for babes.

Oh I forgot to say...homemade mini muffins have always been a huge hit. Use applesauce or bananas instead of sugar. I usually add cooked red lentils for protein or coconut for fat. Shredded carrots or other veggies can usually be hidden in there too. We make lots of pancakes too and I always add veggies and/or lentils.
