We regularly have friends over to just watch games, eat, hang out, let the kids play together, etc. I think it's a great excuse for fun gatherings. Football has been a huge part of my husband's life so we definitely have games on a lot, which is fine with me.</p> <p>BUT, I'm lucky because he has never done fantasy. His quote is "Football was my real life for so long, I don't need it to be my fantasty life too". </p> <p>Also, despite being much more ingrained in football than your average person my husband would NEVER miss an obligation with family or friends because he needs to stay home and watch a football game. Nor does he ever expect that we make plans around football. If he's home and gets to watch, awesome. If not, oh well. We have friends who will miss events like birthday parties if it conflicts with watching a game on TV and honestly I find that to be a really sad way to live your life. We used to watch every Patriots game no matter what but now we just watch when it's convenient and I don't miss it too much. I'm also in a casual fantasy league at work and I enjoy it but don't too caught up in it. I use to despise football but my husband is a huge Seahawks fan so they have been really fun to watch the last couple seasons. BUT I HATTTTTEEE fantasy football. He belonged to 2-3 fantasy football teams that he would track while he watched ALL THREE SUNDAY GAMES IN A ROW! His favorite team is not local, so he only got to watch them every few weeks. I much prefer being a fan of a local team and then watching their one game on Sundays......and that's it. Bonus points if we watch it at a bar or with friends. </p> <p>Now with a toddler, he has scaled his football watching WAY back. Now he only watches the late game most Sundays. If his team is playing during another time slot, he'll watch them too, but that is rare since we are out of their market. He still is in 2 fantasy football leagues, but he no longer has to stare at his stat tracker all day. My husband spent 8 years there, so he's super stoked, but I am dreading the emotional roller coaster associated with every single game- even the silly early ones. All his family/friends are obsessed, so it's all I hear about on the phone and social media. Not to complain about good fortune, but I am over the football drama. And if it's one thing any Ohio team does, is drama and last second wins/losses :wink: </p> <p>We have the same negotiations about family events. I get it that he gets one weekend off a month and wants to relax, but we also have family events, so I hate the resentment on all ends associated with things family wants to do, vs watching the game, especially since my family doesn't do football. They don't understand, "the game is on" when it comes to traveling a few hours to see them. It's not worth tension on any side, so unless it's a big event, I just tell them he's working. I love football but I agree with you about the pressure of losses, the planning our weekends around the games, etc! We have my grandmas 80th bday and my DH wants to skip to watch some meaningless early college game! I love to watch and be involved in the hoopla but, priorities!<br /> This time of year, we have football on every night except Tuesday and Wednesday. Talk about overkill. </p>
