She just turned 5 and has not been allowed to hold one yet. Maybe at 10 or so. I don't buy them but DH's family loves fireworks and I don't know how long I can keep them away from her as I'm not always around.

Hmm last year my son was 2 and I think one of my friends held it with my son and I didn't think anything. If they're carcinogenic maybe I'll have him refrain though.

Hm, I must suck as a mom. I let them hold them (with our hands over their) their first 4th of July, so... 7 months old. They did them independently last year at 3.5. My family works in ERs, and they've had no problem with it.

Wow, I'm really surprised with all these replies! I'm typically the "no" parent, but we've allowed our boys to have them- the 5 year old pretty independently (us close by) and very close supervision with my 2.5 yr old (my hand over his). Am I missing something (besides the obvious burn?!)

It's interesting to me how different people parent. For me, trampolines are a big no, whereas others don't see a problem with it.

Hasn't yet at 4.5 and won't for a while. She can barely roast marshmallows with supervision so I'm not gonna give her a stick of fire!

DS did a month ago (2-1/2) at a friends where their 3 yr old girls were. But we were paranoid so I don't think we'll go out of our way to give them to him.

My kid is 4.5 and I won't let her this summer. Kids just get too easily distracted and injuries can happen in an instant. Doesn't seem worth the risk to me.
