@lilyofthewest: this has been more or less our experience so far too although we didn't start bedsharing consistently until about 6mo (we used to just do it in the morning). DS is no longer content to sleep in his sidecar crib so we moved him in with us. I'm just curious about when the best time to move him out will be now!

Moving a baby into their own room before 6 months is very uncommon here. We're advised to sleep in the same room to improve responsiveness between parents and baby/decrease rhe SIDS risk.

Our pre-baby plan was to keep LO in a bassinet or the mini crib in our room (but not to bed share) until he was 1. That was the plan due to the decreased SIDS risk for babies who room share but not bed share for at least the first year.

2.5 weeks in, baby has bed shared with us every night. He strongly prefers skin-to-skin contact to sleep, and I usually fall asleep during nursing. Given those things, I have no idea how to use a separate sleep space for him.

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to see if there was any pattern. For the time being, DS (7 months) sleeps best next to me, meaning we all get more sleep. I think I want him to be old enough to able to understand the concept of having his own room before we move him.

At about 8 months. That's just when it made sense. Her room wasn't fully set up before then, and she never used it, so it didn't matter. Now we're having another, and we won't move her down to share that room until she's old enough to share a bed with her sister. She'll sleep in a crib next to my bed, and then I'll convert my walk in closet to a little sleeping space for her later.

We have a one bedroom, so she is still with us at 13 months. She has a floor bed, but she's been cosleeping with us while she's been sick. I hope to slowly move her to her own bed after she gets her tubes put in this week. I don't know when we will get a bigger place, but we won't even think of moving her until then. I'm not too concerned about it.

I think around 16 months? We got her a floor bed and baby proofed her room.

We had a nursery, but my older son has never slept in there. He is still co-sleeping at 2.5 years, and it's definitely on his terms!! My younger DS is only 9 weeks and in the arms reach co-sleeper, but I hope he'll sleep in the crib someday :silly:

She was in our room until 1.5 years old. We had a one bedroom. We would have moved her out sooner if we could!

We live in a one bedroom apartment right now and at least until she is 10 months old. This apartment was only meant to be a one year situation but it may end up being a year and half until we can move. She'll share our room until then.

We had a nursery from day one BUT we also had a full sized bed in there, so for the first year, more or less, at least 2 of us were in that room every night. Sometimes it was the three of us.

I still cosleep with my 4 year old, I tell you this to answer that sleeping alone will come on his terms.

We moved our LO at 4 months. I complained to the pediatrician that we were all getting awful sleep and he basically told me I was crazy to keep her in our room if we weren't sleeping well. We were all much happier once we moved her.

We moved her to her own room at 9 months when we sold our one bedroom condo. We all slept infinitely better then! She wasn't a great sleeper in the beginning, but I don't think it would have mattered where she was. By about month 6, she started to realize we were right there and was a nightmare to get back to sleep during night wakings! With our second, we moved her at 4 months.

When will/did you move LO to their own room? Was it on your terms or theirs?

DS is only 7 months and I don't think I'd want to move him until he's well over a year old. This is pure speculation though, since I have no idea what he'll be like then!

What was your experience?
