@yoursilverlining: Thanks for that vote. Sometimes I feel guilty, then I remind myself my reasoning and then I feel more confident.

If you don't want his last name, don't feel like you have to take it :)

I kept my maiden name, and LO has my husband's last name. no one has ever questioned whether we are married, or whether I am actually LO's mom (which seem to be the chief rallying cries of why you have to take your husband's name). Also, we've never felt any less of a family unit for having different last names. I wanted to hyphenate LO's last name, but me and my husband's last names just do not work together, unfortunately.

Except that I don't want his last name. So I guess taking both of our names would defeat that. Dang I am stuck on what to do lol.

@oliviaoblivia: Wow, maybe I need to suggest this idea of me having both to my DH. And then the kids can have both as well...

My name is the the same format as Medianaranja. I have five now because I tacked DH's on to the end and use it socially even though I haven't and likely won't change legally. LO's will be like that as well. DH has four names, and it just seems normal to me to have both parents represented.

My mom didn't change her name when she got married, and gave me her last name as a 2nd middle name. So I am First Name, Middle Name, Mom's maiden name, Dad's Last name. It was kind of a mouthful when I was little, but now that I am grown I LOVE it and did not change it when I got married. Plan to follow the same tradition with any future LOs.

If you didn't take your husbands name when you got married, whose name did the baby take? I kept my maiden name and don't plan on changing it for now, but I think my kids will all just take my husbands name,
