I started with purées at 6 months and introduced finger foods around 8.5 months. My LO loves feeding herself finger foods - chicken, steamed veggies, pasta, rice, fruit, egg, cheese....she is a great eater. In the beginning it would take her forever to feed herself...probably around 13 months she got faster at it. At 17 months she is still a great eater (doesn't really like meat other than chicken but loves veggies and fruit)...she feeds herself everything but I help spoon feed her soups and applesauce.

When she was just starting out feeding herself I would give her finger foods and also spoon feed her purées...some meals she would eat all of her puréed food and some finger foods and other meals she would only eat some puréed food but a ton of finger food.

I would keep offering her a variety of foods on her tray...some foods my LO didn't like for several weeks and later started to love...some foods she used to love and now barely eats a few bites. Keep trying....if she can feed herself I would just keep putting it on her tray to feed herself.

We do both! If it's really messy, I'll feed it to her. I feed her applesauce and all the spoon things still (of course) and sometimes I"ll spoon feed her pasta if it has red sauce on it. She will pick up most anything, though. She also still likes it if I put food in her mouth. Definitely try spoon feeding things if your lo doesn't want to pick them up. It might just take some time to get used to grabbing those things.

We did a mix of purees and BLW, but she suddenly got very picky at 11 months. We're seeing a little bit of progress now in her eating all of the things she used to. I would continue to offer foods. Put them on her tray with foods she likes. Eventually she'll pick it up and eat it. In the meantime, put a splat mat on the floor!

LO only started to show interest in self-feeding at around the 11 month mark. Before that, I was either hand feeding him bits of food like meat, noodles, broccoli, cheese, toast, etc. or spoon feeding things like yogurt, peas, and congee. Now at 12 months, LO prefers to self-feed himself the things I used to feed him by hand. He still doesn't use a spoon too well so I still spoon feed him things like yogurts and soups.

I would try spoon feeding or hand feeding your LO bits of food. Once she gets a taste for it, she may start showing interest in feeding herself.

I spoon fed soups, pureed soups and congee. I sometimes would feed her pieces of food. She was/is really good at self-feeding, but sometimes i had to hand her food to encourage eating.

The 11 month mark was the toughest for me!! She didn't want to eat most things i offered her, and a lot ended up on the floor. :(

I would probably try and spoon feed some regular food to see if she responds to it better?

Do they self feed, or do you have to spoon feed?

LO is 11 months and only feeds herself beans, peas, puffs, and (sometimes) noodles. The rest gets a disgusted look and goes on the floor. We're still doing puree pouches and baby food jars. Should I just start spoon feeding her "regular" food?
