@Red: It does. Thanks! Man. I co-sleep with my LO and I can't imagine her waking to nurse at 19 months.. -.- I need my sleep too! Hoping to get her to sleep on her own again soon.

@Maysprout: It's so good that your LO eats solids well! Mine is an okay eater--it's a hit or a miss. She still gets most of her calories from me. She's turning 1 soon!
And omg. Is it bad that I think it's SO cute that your LO pinches you when she's hungry?

@miss-spunkin: LO's turning 1 in 4 days and I hope to go until she turns 2! So far people I've told are surprised.. but I just tell them that it's the new WHO rec.

I'm probably not the best person to ask since I'm nursing LO about every 4 hours. We've both just started the GAPS diet and are pretty limited in what we can eat so I'm nursing more often than I want to or should. Plus, LO isn't a very good water-drinker (although she's getting better) so when she gets thirsty, she wants milk. LO is allergic to a lot of different types of milk so she only drinks breastmilk, broth and water right now. BTW, she's just shy of 16 months and I expect to wean her around 18-20 months.

My friend who has a sleep-trained 14 month old only nurses 3 times a day, wake-up, naptime, and bedtime and says that it's really for comfort for her LO. Otherwise, her LO drinks cow's milk. Another friend with a 19-month that she co-sleeps with nurses every 3-4 hours and a couple times at night. This is also more for comfort since her LO eats and drinks plenty.

Hope this helps.

My LO is turning 10 months and by her love of boobie milk I don't think she'll be weaned by a year. Right now when I'm away during the day or for a few hours she barely drinks any milk and eats mostly solids so that's good, I feel like she's a lot less dependent than she was. I also worry about judgement so I think I'm going to be a lot less likely to NIP, though it's barely necessary anymore since she's pretty good about eating solids now. I think our biggest hurdle will be sleep associations for nap time and bed time and also just learning some manners (like don't pinch mommy to communicate hunger). She just started responding to signs so hopefully we're able to establish more polite communication soon.

I want to follow this thread as well. I know I want to nurse at least a year, but aim for 24 mos (Dr. Sears recommendation, and the WHO as well). Honestly my biggest worry is the judgment from people/other moms. One mom I know nursed her DD for three years and faced a lot of ridicule for it even tho she didn't nurse in public at that age.

I wouldn't think so as long as she's still getting what she needs from nursing. I'm impressed you still go every 3 hours! We're at 4 times a day, but he is a pretty voracious solids eater.

@Mrs. Yoyo: My LO's turning 1 in 5 days. I give her solids 3x a day and I give her breast milk every 3 hours while she's up. I plan on breastfeeding for at least another 6 months, so I'm wondering if cow's milk is even necessary..

What does your feeding schedule look like?
Where/when do you give your LO cow's milk (or other)?
How much do you give?
How much do you nurse?
