I was worried about this too, but the baby never woke up #1, even when they started sharing a room! DD is an awesome sleeper. What actually was/is an issue, is DD1 playing/making noise while DD2 naps. Now that happens pretty often. DD2 is a light sleeper, even with white noise on, but she's gotten better over time.

I am worried about this because we only have 2 bars so whenever we have another LO they will share a room.

Usually it's the toddler that wakes up the baby! Baby slept with us until 8 months and since then they've been sharing a room. We use white noise but after the first couple of days they mostly got used to each others' sleep noises. So now when the toddler has a nightmare the baby wakes up, but when the baby cries the toddler will generally sleep through it until I get him.

white noise, but its never been an issue for us either! their rooms are right next to each other and this was one of my concerns too.

DD slept in our room until 5 months(this week haha), but she's been STTN for about 2 1/2 months and once we transitioned her into her room(this week) right next to his, she's only woken a few times and didn't wake him. We were nervous about it, because my mom said my younger brother would wake me all the time when he was a newborn with his crying.

I worried about this too, but it was never an issue! I think toddlers are just super heavy sleepers! Our security alarm had a false alarm one night and our 2 year old slept right through it even though it was so loud I felt like my head was throbbing, ha!

It might not be an issue. We introduced the white noise to our son when our daughter was born. But turns out he makes more noise than her. We never gave her white noise hoping she'll just get used to all the sounds. And so far so good. We've pretty much stopped the white noise for our son too.

Edit: their rooms are also next to each other.

@mrsjyw: this is one of my concerns too bc our kids will have rooms right next to each other. I plan on doing white noise in both rooms and putting LO1's bed on the wall farthest from the nursery

DD1 doesn't use white noise, but her room isn't next to the nursery. She's never woken up in the middle of the night by the baby crying, but she has woken up if the baby wakes up too early (between 5 and 6 am).

We use white noise in Ellie's room, but it just depends on the kid. She has never been bothered by Lorelei's noise at night. In the beginning Mr. T would do nighttime diaper changes before bringing her to me for a feed (we bed-shared, but if she started to wake he would change her and bring her back to bed). She hated having her diaper changed, and so she would sometimes SCREAM during a change, but it never woke Ellie.

How do you ensure your first LO doesn't awake from nb baby?

One of my main concerns for having future lo!

DS is a great sleeper and uses the marpac dohm, but the other room we'd use for future baby is right next to his-- tho we'll have the babe with us in our room for a lil while. How did you make the 1-2 sleep transition?
