Oh I love these, I think I'm going to make a couple now so she can play with them when she wakes up  . Last week we filled some plastic eggs with rice, popcorn kernels and pasta and she LOVES those - these are even better since you can see inside!

@MamaMoose: We use soda bottles for this reason. The tops screw on tighter than many of the water bottles. Although glue is a good idea too.

So am I the only one who panics that their LO will somehow manage to get the top off the bottle and then choke on it? My husband tells me it's an irrational fear and it sounds like you all would agree!

We did this with old plastic bottles once we weren't using them anymore. Pasta, rice, dried beans, etc. Still loves shaking them and hearing the different sounds.

Coffee beans in a bottle is still a favorite over a year later :) We also have jumbo poms in a wipes container that he likes to pull out and put back in.

@autumnlove: I used a baby food jar for colored rice (ran out of bottles). lol

@MamaG: Ooooh I didn't think of pennies! So fun filling them with different things, how did I not know about this for so long?! *gasp*

We have black beans in a water bottle. We also have some in an old advil bottle (she can't see what's making the noise). And we have another water bottle that has some pennies in it.

I saw that water bottles was a popular "unexpected toy" so I thought I'd share what we've started to do with our water bottles, because P likes playing with them here too!

I found some fun "sensory bottles" on Pinterest so I decided to make our own (G helped) & P has LOVED them!
http://theimaginationtree.com/2012/10/baby-sensory-play-discovery-bottles.html
http://www.theiowafarmerswife.com/2012/05/baby-toddler-sensory-bottles.html

I chose the ones filled with:
1. Pieces of tin foil for slow movement, reflection, & P uses it like a rattle/shaker (poor bottle is already all beat up).
2. Buttons with water for fun colors & movement (pretty fast movement)
3. Variety color/size pom poms for visual stimulation & early math concepts
4. Different colored beads in water for movement & sound (this one is DH's favorite)

Super easy & everything I had on hand so in essence they cost me NOTHING! Woot woot! Since P has loved them so much I thought I'd share with you ladies.... if they're gonna play with water bottles, might as well help stimulate their little brains, right?! :)
