Oh yeah, and we have a potty in the car, but that's more for use when he tells us he needs to go while we're driving. I pull over and he does his thing in the potty-- quicker than trying to find a public restroom somewhere.

X just sits straight on the seat. He touches EVERY nasty surface in public restrooms, and there's no way he'd leave the paper covers or toilet paper on the seat, plus, since he's only 19 months, when he says he has to potty it means RIGHT NOW, so we have to move fast-- no time for covers, so really I'm not as concerned about that. He goes right on the potty seat and I hold him on the edge while he goes. Needless to say his hands get washed really well, and later when we're home, so does his bottom at bath time.

We just take off pants/shorts and underpants completely and set C back on the toilet seat, let him lean forward and hold on so he is aimed down and balanced and let him go.

We've done relaxed EC with W, I keep a potty in the trunk of or SUV. All of my mom friends have car potties, lol. It's great, especially since W is so young (not even 15 months yet) and I'm disgusted by public restrooms.

@baby boy mom - that's a great idea. i'll have to teach him that when he pees standing up.

@mamabehr - what a horrible experience for your daughter falling in. i would've freaked out. and i actually believe you when you say that the toilet seat is the cleanest thing in the restroom....i took a microbio class once and we had to swab certain areas to see if bacteria would grow. the public toilet seat had way less bacteria than our own cell phones.

We sat him on the seat. At the actual potty training time, I made sure to get him to go potty before we headed out, and didn't stay as long out and about. My MIL was never good about reminding him about potty, so she often had underwear emergencies with him, lol

At about this age, she sits on the seat as I hold her. She sitsslightly on one side (like the left side) just because it's easier for my daughter to balance as opposed to when she sits in the middle. We've had a few number 2's in public restrooms and survived!

I took the Bjorn seat with us at first, but then I just started holding Ellie sideways on the toilet (I'd support under her arms because she didn't feel very secure on there).

We just sit him on it. Usually he straddles it and puts his hands in front.

At first we used the seat but once he had the hang if things we started just holding him up. Or, letting him sort of lean over and pee standing.

At first we used a little bjorn potty seat that goes right on top of the toilet. A week into potty training dd got comfortable just sitting on the toilet. Sometimes if there's a gap in the front, I'll seat her on the side of the seat

I use to be vigilant about paper on the toilet seat, but she wiggled enough that half the time she was on the toilet seat anyways. She also uses her hands to help keep her propped up, I use to have an issue with it, but she washes her hands super good when she is done. Besides, they say the toilet seat is one of the cleanest things in a restroom.

And, she HAS fallen into a public toilet once. That was when I insisted on her holding on to me instead of the seat. It was a HORRIBLE experience (just picture her in toilet bowl, DS on my chest in an Ergo, me totally freaking out).

We tried to bring a seat at first but it was too much of a pain, so after a few days we taught him to pee standing up and now I just stand him on the toilet ( holding him of course).

She just sits on the actual seat, right on the edge. I lift her up if it is a tall toilet.

what do you do for public restrooms? Do you bring a potty seat or potty chair? Or do you have them sit on the actual seat (with a seat cover, of course)? I would assume that the toilet seats are too big for them though.

My DS is 2.5 years old, and we're practicing the 3-day potty training method this weekend. We're on day 2, and so far, he's getting better and better. We're teaching him to pee sitting down first. Now, I'm wondering what we need to do for public restrooms.
