We don't line dry either. I have always dried in the dryer and never had an issue with repelling or delamination. Our diapers still look new with no staining from just washing and drying in our top loader. I have occasionally sunned them (in the driveway if I was desperate, but mostly at my parents house who live nearby, since we don't have a back yard or get sun on our deck) for tough stains.

It is recommended but you do not HAVE to line dry. We also rarely use the diaper sprayer as well, which I feel was one of the most unnecessary things we purchased for CDing. It actually makes more of a mess, IMO! But LO was breastfed so it might make a difference with a formula fed baby.

You can definitely make cloth diapering work without drying outside. Your strategy will depend on what kind of diaper you are using.

We are using prefolds and covers. We dry the prefolds in the dryer. I hang the covers to dry on a rack that hooks behind the laundry door. I also have a drying rack. As for sunning, you can put them inside in front of a sunny window. You can follow a similar routine for pocket diapers. We don't use AIOs, so I can't advise on that.

We're not on solids yet, but I don't plan on using a sprayer.

I would not use a diaper sprayer as a bidet sprayer! The pressure is really strong!! LOL.

We line dry in the summer and it ALWAYS get the stains out. I hate having to just dry them in the dryer, though the prefolds do come out fluffier.

I put them in the dryer on high heat, seems to be okay. I don't use a diaper sprayer yet, but my LO is EBF. When she starts on solids I plan to use the liners, I just can't handle the sprayers :)

I never, NEVER do this. It is absolutely not required! I can't say anything about stains, as mine are honestly fairly stained. But I don't make much of an effort. As long as they're clean and sanitary, I'm happy.

We line dry everything in the summer. In the winter we dry wet bags and covers on a drying rack, everything else goes in the dryer. We don't have a sprayer and don't miss it. BF poops don't need to be sprayed before going in the wash. Now that she's eating solids, most of her poop is solid enough to plop in the toilet. When it's not I just swish it.

I line dry inside and its fine. I use pants/skirt hangers with the clips and just clip two diapers to each and by morning they are dry (AIO take a bit longer). I hardley ever sun.

I hung them up on plastic hangers to line dry in our old laundry room. We have an indoor drying rack at our house...I haven't sunned diapers for months!

@FutureMrsMcK: I'm afraid of the toilet-dunk part. My mom still horrifies me with awful stories of how I had extreme jaundice for the first month of my life, and had blowout after blowout that she had to wash off in the toilet. Thanks for scarring me, mom!

Well, we don't line dry. Only when they are stained and need to be sun-bleached. I know we should, and I probably will during the summer, but they'll probably just be hung on the railing of the deck. I haven't had an issue just throwing them in the dryer.

As for the sprayer, I don't know. We have one, but apparently our toilet doesn't have the right...hook-up thing. He still pretty much has EBF poop so it hasn't been an issue yet. I'm not quite sure what we'll do when it's more like real poop, but I'm sure we'll figure something out. Scrape and dunk + extra rinse maybe?

@Anagram: We hung all of our diapers in the shower in the bathroom and left the door open :) we didn't have a yard either (we were in a townhouse). It worked like a charm!

we haven't line dried or sunned our diapers yet and they are still looking good! you can always 'line dry' indoors, or on a drying rack on your balcony. that way, they won't be all 'out there' if you know what i mean hehe :)

we also don't have a sprayer, but i don't really mind getting poop on my hands :P it would be nice to have one, though!!

ETA: you also don't need to sun them every time -- just when there are stains etc :)! so it might only be once a month or less!

@grizz: oh, good idea. Maybe a drying rack set up on the balcony would be less visible to other units. And we'd take it down when not in use.

@Anagram: Line drying will be an issue for us too, as our HOA doesn't allow it. I bought an indoor drying rack, but am concerned about what to do about sunning the stains out of diapers when needed. I don't think a couple of hours outside would be a big deal though!

So, we may be moving into the condo I posted about earlier. Yayyyy---a two bedroom!

We've also been talking about cloth diapering. We were both cloth diapered when we were babies (had disposables been invented yet?), and the new ones seem easy enough. But I do have some questions.

We'll have a washer/dryer in unit, but I keep reading about cloth diapers needing to be line-dryed. We'll have a small balcony, but I'm not sure if we're "allowed" to dry stuff out there on a line (HOA rules--I'll have to ask). Are CDs a no-go if I can't dry outside? Is that the only way stains come out?

DH also thinks it's "low class" to hang stuff there and says he wouldn't like it if lots of people started drying laundry on their balcones. But I'm thinking...if it's only the CDs, and only occasionally, for a couple hours, on a line that we hang up and put away after--then who cares?

Also--diaper sprayer. Is this necessary/nice? Any brands you'd recommend? Is it possible to have a diaper spray that is adjustable in strength, so it *could* be used as a bidet sprayer as well? In DH's culture, those are common, so we've always wanted to add one.

Thoughts? Advice?
