When I do newborn sessions I go to their house because I like more lifestyle pics than the set up shots. I like that our pics have her nursery in them and include some funny pics of our kitty, who just couldn't be left out. We had to have it very toasty in the room. She had a space heater and also suggested pre heating the house for naked baby warmth. Our photographer is a pro when it comes to newborn photos. She sets aside hours (think 3+) for each newborn session and likes the pictures to be done within the first 10 days. She is very easy going and lets things happen on babies cues so when DS needed a nursing break she would let us nurse until he was ready to move on. We used her for our engagement pictures too with our dogs and she was the same way working with animals...the first 45 minutes there she just let the dogs run around to get used to things.</p> <p>ETA: We also did the in hospital pics within the first 24 hours, but they are nothing compared to what our photographer was able to do! I think it depends on what type of newborn photos you want. If you want the newborn with props photos (sleeping in a basket, etc.), then the studio will have better lighting, temperature, and more props. However, our shoot was more of a lifestyle shoot rather than the newborn pics w lots of props and poses. She has this beautiful 3 season room off the back of her house that lets in all the natural light, not to mention all her backdrops and props that were there. She had the heater going too and we felt very comfortable.
