Same as @emg86:. I had some complications so I ended up delivering at a hospital in the end, but I was surprised at how much they covered.

Our insurance covers hospital birth the same as a home birth (70%). We are doing a home birth, and I'm 100% certain it will cost us way less than a hospital birth. This didn't influence our decision, but it definitely doesn't suck.

I have cigna and they cover it all. The only thing that they don't pay is for the birthing assistant at a home birth which is $650.

I will tell you that anthem blue cross, seems to be the worst with this kid of stuff from my experience as a doula

@Beyond2: We have Blue Cross Blue Shield and they would only cover certain midwives--those with CNM certifications but you had to pay upfront for costs cause they take forever to pay midwives. We ended paying out of our HSA account. My SIL had much better coverage through their insurance which didn't require the CNM certification. She still had to pay upfront though and then the insurance sent her a check.

Did your insurance cover it? If so how much did they pay towards it? My first homebirth was fully covered by insurance but now I have Anthem Blue Cross (PPO) and have heard horrible stuff about them and homebirth coverage :-/
