I had spotting about 6 days before AF, probably 8 DPO, and, though it was very early, I thought it was game over for that month. The spotting was very light/brownish-pink and was gone within 24 hours. When the spotting didn't start up again closer to AF's arrival, and then AF didn't appear when she was supposed to (I'm very regular), I knew. I made myself wait until AF was 3 days late to take the test, and yes, BFP! I had my implantation bleeding almost exactly a year ago! Crazy how fast it goes. It happened on a Tuesday, got a bfn on Thursday, but a bfp on Friday! It started at 8 DPO and was like brown tinged mucous, when I wiped. A couple times it was pinky red, like beginning of period. It lasted until week 7 though and freaked me out a bit obviously.
