My plan gets messed up pretty much every week. I try not to pick out which day I'm going to make what meal in advance so the plan can be a little flexible.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one.

@duckduckkristen: My husband doesn't eat leftovers so I always have too many leftovers. I'll eat them for lunch the next day, then freeze for future lunches.

I usually only plan 4 meals a week, figuring we'll have leftovers or something will come up the 5th night. The only things that really screw up the plan are when there are more leftovers than I thought there would be, or when I'm lazy and just don't feel like cooking. Just in case everything goes perfectly and we need an EXTRA meal, I always have frozen veggies and meats on hand.

It's been more lately but typically it's less than 1x per week. A normal week has us eating at home 4-5 nights and making do over the weekends. We are usually pretty good about sticking to it unless one of us forgets to take something out to thaw or the crockpot messes up or we missed a step in the recipe (like that something should have marinated or been pre-cooked).

This is exactly why I've never planned a full week ahead. At the most I will plan three nights in advance, but that gets messed up often enough that it's not worth it for me to do any more. I also pack our lunches every day but I've learned never to buy enough for a full week because some of it always gets wasted. I'll usually buy enough for us to pack lunches 3-4 days and it works out perfectly.

My plans get messed up weekly! I just push everything down a day, or if I didn't really care to make that meal in the first place, I just skip it. If I forsee things getting pushed back further, I toss the meats in the freezer for later use. Not as great as fresh, but I'd hate to toss out "good" meat!

Whenever I try to plan a weekly menu, something comes up. For this week I planned 4 meals assuming we'd go out Friday night for dinner, and we usually go out on weekends because I love a chance to get out of the house. But already tonight dinner is cancelled because my family wants to go to an all you can eat night at the baseball stadium. Hopefully the ingrediants for one meal will last until next week!
