@Ms.Badger: Yep, I would stick with the wakings you are willing to feed him. I'm not sure if you are saying you'd only give the paci sometimes?? I agree with PP that it should be all or nothing, that is confusing. Good luck!

@Ms.Badger: what we did was get rid of the paci and then do what I needed t do to get him to sleep at night, even if it meant nursing 5x. Then when he was 6.5 months we sleep trained to get night wakings down to 1. I didn't want to put paci weaning off bc I thought it would be harder and the constant replacing wAs driving me crazy.

For the lovey I held it between us whenever I nursed him so he started to associate it with nursing/comfort.

@hilsy85: Not swaddled (haven't since early NB days, he never really liked it) and I have introduced the A&A security blanket lovey but he doesn't really get it yet. Definitely making me reconsider the paci later at night, but those wake-ups are already hellish. Do you think I should work to get the later wake-ups easier to put back to sleep before I paci ween?

@Ms.Badger: this is probably not what you want to hear, but when we had a similar situation (LO was waking constantly for his paci), we paci weaned cold turkey because I couldn't handle going in there one more time to put it b ack in his mouth. We replaced with a lovey (very very thin A&A blanket) and swaddle weaned at the same time.

Good luck tonight!

ETA I think it might be confusing if he gets the paci some part of the night but not the rest...I would maybe decide to either use it or not. Is he still swaddled?

Shamelessly bumping for nighttime bees! Here's my plan:
7:30 - midnight Try to soothe to sleep without paci
3 Feeds midnight, 3, and 6 (approximately when he is eating now)
other wake-ups midnight-7 - soothing with paci without picking up
Any suggestions/comments - I could use all the help I can get

@Ms.Badger: ughhhhhhh. We didn't sleep train til 11.5 months, so it was easier for us. She was more than capable of finding her paci. I don't really have any suggestions, but i will commiserate. We had a HORRIBLE 4 months sleep regression. This too will pass!

@scg00387: Currently he goes to bed at 7:30 and don't feed him until 12:30, then around 3:00 and then sometime between 5:00 and 6:30. He's always up for the day at 7:30.
Do you think I should work in this framework and just train the wake-ups between these times? That's what I was thinking of starting with.
@yellowbird: He's 4.5 months. His only ability to find his paci and this point is to find it and pull it out of his mouth  .

Sorry to hear about the crappy sleeps. We did CIO so I am not too sure about the non CIO method. PP's did give some pretty good advice though. I hope you can get it worked out!

How old is your LO? Is he able to find his paci and put it back in yet?

@Ms.Badger: how old? We did no cry sleep solution as well. I didn't consider night nursing a sleep problem; but if I were you I'd tackle the non nursing sessions or set a time that before that you'll not feed and wakings after that you will.

Same as @loveisstrange...when we sleep trained, we tackled the non feeding wake ups first.

We did CIO, but I think your questions are pretty universal. I would definitely try dropping the pack wakings first and the do the night weaning, one feeding at a time. You might find that as he drops the non-hunger feedings, he may stretch out his time between the feedings.

I am to the point where our current sleeping situation is untenable. He's waking at least 8 times a night. All but three of the wakings, he goes back down with some soothing (sometimes more than others) and the paci (no feeding); the other 3 wakings he gets feed (either I breast feed him, or DH gives a pumped bottle). The most important thing for my sanity is dropping the short, "I just want my paci" wake-ups.

I am planning on implementing the no cry sleep solution. I understand it will take some time but I feel it's better for me than CIO. My question is - do I tackle all his sleep problems at once? Or should I focus on dropping the short wake-ups first and then work on dropping one or two of the feedings? I'd love insight from all those sleep trained / are sleep training. I'm not CIO, but I know you all will have insights that will help me too.
