The first one we did was "more" and it was after we started solids. I think he was 10 months when he did more the first time,
After only a few times of showing him.

we started milk at 6 months and she picked that up first, and then more was added a few weeks after that. eat was next, followed by all done and please, thank you, and help. it is so neat to see LO signing to us. she's 2 now and communicates to us talking, but she still remembers some of the signing, and with a LO on the way, we'd like to use signing again as we thought it was so helpful.

i can't quite remember how long it took for her to pick up the signing, but we just tried to consistently do milk before we give her the bottle, and she got it eventually. same thing with more and eat, which i think she picked up even faster than it took her to get the sign for milk.

We just started with LO at 6 months. I do milk before I BF, eat before solids, and more in between eating. We've also been doing the signs for mommy and daddy. I will add all done now.

You might also want to try the sign for "eat" before you start the feeding. "All done" was our LO's first sign and it was closely followed by "eat". Next up for us was "more" and quickly followed with "please" and "thank you". LO still is not signing "milk" or "drink".

Ooo, I didn't think about "all done". I should probably do that one too.

And yes, she was highly amused watching me do the sign. lol

DD was 9 months before she started signing; her first sign was "snow." :) DS is close in age to C, and he loves watching me sign, but hasn't done it back yet.

For more, I do in between every few bites (as long as DS isn't angry that I stopped shoveling food in his mouth, lol). For milk, I just do it before I give him a bottle. We also do all done at the end of bottles and meals. Otherwise, a lot of signs are nouns and verbs (animals, objects, actions, etc...), so I just do those signs as we come across them during the day.

How long did it take your LO to pick up the signs and start doing them?

C is 6.5 months and we're just now starting to do baby sign language. We're starting with "more" and "milk". I started "more" when I fed her dinner tonight. I did the sign when she would stop eating and when she finished the first container and we started the 2nd. I would stop, get her attention and do the sign, and then hold up the container or spoon and then do the sign again and try to feed her. Is that right? Is that what I should be doing?

Milk we've been doing very sporadically for a few weeks. I really need to be much more consistent with it. I just do it before I give her each bottle, right?
