My OB brought up meds at my first appt (I had to be on them with previous pregnancy). At first I said I could handle it but then about 3 days later it got so bad I called and got Zofran. For some reason though I barely have to take it, maybe it is psychological of just knowing I have it if needed seems to keep the nausea at bay.

I was at my first appointment, only 6w2d by my doc's measurements when I told her I wasn't feeling well and she said yes, she could give me something so I could function again! Haha much earlier than most..but according to my doc's measurements I also got my bfp at 3w and I was already nauseous then!

@mamamoose: Yay for feeling better! The 1/2 unisom + B6 worked really well for me too. It took the edge off, enough for me to be able to function! :)

@banana: I did a half a unisom last night and that alone made today much better. Starting tonight I'll be adding 50mg of B6 to the half unisom (this was the dosage the nurse called me with today). Thankfully today I was improved enough to get back on board with fluids so no more dehydration. Huzzah!

I lost weight and was vomiting several times throughout the day at around 12 weeks, and I started zofran then. I only took it when I couldn't function normally at work and it did wonders.

I started zofran at 8 weeks...it was a lifesaver! The only downside was it backed things up, but since i wasnt sick all the time, i was able to walk a couple of miles every day, which helped keep things moving!

I always say that as soon as the nasuea is bad enough to affect your daily routine (e.g. you can't perform normal, daily tasks or keep up with your daily routine), you should be on meds.

Some people react better to some medications more than others. I hope that, whatever your nurse prescribes, you get some relief. In the meantime, many people find instant relief from smelling lemons or rubbing alcohol; you might try that if it gets really bad before your nurse can get back to you.

The nurse called me back and suggested Zofran. She said she wasn't familiar with the B6/Unisom combo. I asked her to please check around with the doctors (my primary is out with a concussion so I knew the nurse hadn't talked to a Dr) and call me back. I want relief but I would prefer to avoid RX meds if I can. I can usually get down a combo of lemonade and water so I'm leaving work shortly to go home and try to force some of that down.

My doctor brought up meds at an early appointment, after she saw I had lost weight and was throwing up multiple times a day, every day. I took Zofran every 4 hours almost everyday through the first trimester.

Water also made me gag early on - lemon slices in water helped, and I drank a lot of watered down juice instead of straight water. Good luck!

I was on zofran for much of first trimester and third trimester, and also took phenergan occasionally when the zofran wasn't cutting it. I wasn't throwing up constantly, but I was so nauseous that I couldn't concentrate on anything else... not work, not conversations with DH... it was pretty much all-consuming, a LOT of the time. The zofran wasn't a magic bullet, but it allowed me to be functional in my daily life, whereas without it I honestly couldn't get anything else done.

@mamamoose: Hope it works for you. It worked really well for me. I'd say my nausea went from a 9 (i had it BAD) to maybe a 4-5ish? I don't think anything takes it away 100% so that was good enough for me. Even the few times I tried prescription anti-nausea meds (Zofran) it didn't get rid of it 100%.

I tried the Unisom + B6 and it worked really well for me! My doc also said it was perfectly fine. I felt better about taking this than prescription meds. Maybe ask your doc about unisom/b6?

I called around 9 weeks, after about 2 weeks of not keeping anything down, I was losing weight and I knew that couldn't be healthy. I still had a little nausea afterwards, but it was like night and day symptoms! I would say if you aren't getting the recommended water intake to call. I didn't always take them everyday, only when I felt the need. And I tried to keep it to one a day, even though I was able to do up to 3.

Note: these things can make a person extremely constipated just as a fair warning, this was almost worse than the getting sick for me!

At what point did you decide to call your doctor and discuss going on medication? I'll be 9 weeks tomorrow. I never actually vomit but I have been having pretty constant nausea. The past three days things have really escalated and I'm having a hard time functioning. I'm also getting splitting headaches which I know is in part due to dehydration, but water makes me gag. UGH. I'm so thankful to be feeling symtoms that hopefully mean things are going well... but it's starting to effect my ability to work and live my life.
