I came very close to a water birth, I had to get out at the last minute because I just couldn't get her out.

1. Hubby sat by the tub on a stool. I think he could of got in but I didn't want him to. I leaned on the side of the tub and held onto his hand and a bar for support.

2. I used a built in tub at a birth centre. As for comfort I was as comfortable as I could be. I had back labour and the only postion that I could stand to be was frog with my head on the side of the tub. Eventually my hips started to ache but moving out of that position caused even more pain. The water certainly helped, I would of had an epi without it.

3. Had to get out of the tub but at my birth centre you get out to birth the placenta anyway

4. I had an episiotomy in the end so don't know what would of happened naturally... or if she wasn't coming out crooked

I got out of the tub at 9cm and when my midwife told me to get back in if I wanted my water birth, I chose to give birth in our bed.

1. Dh didn't get in the tub with me, I didn't ask. I think we had decided that if I wanted him in there I would tell him. He did however stand next to the tub and was incredibly supportive. He held me up so that I could float or lay on my side, rubbed my back and did everything he could to encourage me. Same with my doula. He was never grossed out by anything and he got to watch the whole thing and was very involved.

2. We used the Birth Pool In A Box and loved it. It was super comfortable and the right size for me to float, lay on my side and rock on my hands and knees. The water did help with some pain relief now that I look back at the whole experience. In the moment though, I was upset cause it didn't make the pain go away, lol, which is what I wanted whether I was in the water or not...hahaha!

3. I didn't give birth in the tub, because I was too exhausted to get back in. I know a friend of mine who also delivered in bed was allowed to get back in and deliver her placenta in the water.

4. I didn't have tears, but didn't give birth in the water.

I wanted one with my first but it wasn't meant to be. I'm thinking about trying one again with my second (in a few weeks). I did labor for a long time in the tub and DH wasn't grossed out at all. Actually the lights were dimmed so there really wasn't anything to see. Just remember to bring him a change of clothes. It was my understanding that you hop out to deliver the placenta. However, most people want to wait to do that until the cord stops pulsing, so I'd imagine you could relax for a few minutes. I'm going to talk with my MW on Friday about it.

I did't give birth in the tub but I labored in it for a while. Also, everytime you contract in the water a little more blood and fluid / clots come out.

1. DH was in the tub with me, but he was more just there so I didn't have to feel like I was in this alone. I didn't want anyone touching me and corny lines like "you're doing so great, she'll be here soon!" just pissed me off lol. Even with all the stuff falling out (the bottom of the tub had ligths so the midwives could see what was going on under water) DH was a trooper.

2. We used a deep jacuzzi tub that was at the birth center. It had seats built in so that DH could sit beside me as I gripped the side for dear life, lol.

3. Doesn't apply to me

4. I was not aware that I tore. Seeing that the midwives had to inspect me only after the fact, I don't know how any one would know you'd torn unless they got you out of the water. But my birth center and midwives were so old school and granola maybe there's some new technology / procedure for that.

I have some questions for the ladies that have had water births. Also, if you have birth stories, I'd love those as well!

1. Did your husband join you in the tub? If so, what was your experience and his regarding being in the tub together? Was your husband grossed out at any point?

2. Did you use a blow-up birthing tub, kiddie pool, or built in tub at a birthing center or hospital? What was your experience in terms of comfort? If you've had more than one water birth, what was different and which did you prefer?

3. How long were you allowed to stay in the water after giving birth? Did you deliver your placenta in the water as well?

4. Did you tear? And if so, were you required to immediately get out of the water for stitches?
