In Hawaii...shoes are always off inside, for some families, shoes are even off outside too.

DD learned early how to take off/put on her shoes, so it hasn't been a big issue; plus her daycare is shoe free, so she gets lots of practice. When she was just starting to walk, I'd often carry her from the car to the door so I could take her shoes off for her, right in the doorway.

Shoes off when you're in the house, no matter what age :) Except crib shoes are okay ;)

It's really not a big deal. They'll eventually get into the habit, and it's important for little kids to have barefoot time. When I was a kid, we would head out the door without shoes and play in the yard for much of the year. (It was good clean dirt, but that would probably explain why mom mopped the kitchen floor every Saturday!)

Lala knows that as soon as she comes in she needs to take shoes, so much so that she'll frequently plop down on the rug right in front of the door before we can even close it. When her friends come over, she tells them "Shoes off!" too.

When we get home, Charlie always says, 'Shoes off, jacket off, clean hands!"

A lot of Asian people purposefully buy shoes that are easy to put on and off... we got Charlie a pair of red shoes that are really easy to get on and off!

Yeah it's not that bad, as Rubies said. We always have DD remove her shoes. She can do it herself now so it's even easier.

We don't wear shoes in the house and if/when LO wears shoes, we just take them off/put them on just as we would with our own shoes! It's not as chaotic as it may seem!

I know we spoke earlier about many people taking their shoes off before coming into the house. How do you handle small kids? It seems like it would be a pain to remove their shoes and help put them on every time you come in and out of the house but their shoes get just as dirty as anyone else.
