my lactation consultant said that the whole idea of foremilk and hindmilk is pretty overblown and that if you're getting a letdown or nursing for longer than a minute or two, it's not a concern at all. Fussy, gassy and explosive poops sounds like every newborn I've ever met! It gets better :-)

Just make sure to nurse each side long enough. If you switch too soon then they're only getting the foremilk. But other than that, it just may take time.

So far so good, I think. Yellow curdy poops, but they smell fermented.

My lo had a lot of green poops the first week. I would nurse on one side exclusively for two hours and then switch. I beleive I was over producing so she wasn't getting hind milk. After about a week this cleared up. But I'd be careful doing that unless you're confident in your supply because the point is to reduce it so the baby gets hind milk!

WheW. Thank you! Isn't it difficult? With all these hormones, sometimes I just cry with him, because I know there really isn't anything I can do to alleviate his discomfort. We do bicycle legs, tummy time, burping, infant massage, warm baths... But you are right. Some of it is just an immature digestive system. :(

I agree with the previous posters, it sounds totally normal. I would try not to stress if you can and just wait it out for awhile. If it keeps up longer than say 6 weeks, you may want to ask your doctor about it. We had similar issues that persisted and I was convinced it was foremilk/hundmilk issues at first, but actually it turned out to be MSPI (which has similar symptoms). But that is rare, so hopefully for you guys, you will be fine. Good luck!

Fussy, gassy, and explosive poop sounds about right for all newborns. Add in reflux, and you have the typical baby. My doctor kept stressing to me that all babies have an immature digestive system for the first couple of months and all have issues with reflux and gassiness at first. You just have to wait it out (unless it seems to be worsening and could be something else).

I'm not sure I would be so quick to attributing his problems to a foremilk problem. At that age a lot of babies are gassy and have trouble with poops. I would say just stick it out for right now, you're still deep in the trenches at only 1 week pp. I think you're right to go with the thought that boob and babe will figure it out.

We are one week PP and trying to figure out our milk production. All of the foremilk is making William fussy, gassy and have explosive poops.

Did you go through this stage? It usually passes, right? And I dont want to interfere because boob and babe will figure it out together?
