The hosp I was at was of the no food or drinks once you are admitted variety so I wasn't too surprised when they asked just annoyed that they hadn't mentioned it during the tour so I could be prepared and leave my jewelry at home. I always put them back on as soon as I'm done or I panic. I just clean them very often (baby toothbrush and windex under hot running water) and since they're white gold, I do have to get them rhodium dipped about once a year. But I'm of the camp of the safest place for them is on your finger. I even kept them on under my gloves when I went snowboarding-- I didn't want to leave them in my house (burglar while we're on vacation??) or hotel room (please!!!). I have this habit now (after 8 years of wearing a ring, haha) of touching the tips of my thumbs to the insides of my ring fingers several times a day. If I don't feel a ring there I panic.
