There's a growth spurt around that age and as they eat more and stretch their tummies they start to extend that first stretch of sleep so this is all a good thing. At that age we did a a 730pm bedtime feeding and then did a 1030pm dreamfeed where we got him up, changed his diaper to rouse him a wee bit, and then gave him a warm bottle before we went to bed. That feed was usually smaller than a full feed but we just let him suck until he passed out on the bottle. Then we let DS just wake us whenever he got up in the night after that. You can also try to add 1/2oz to your other bottles and see if that helps as well - I know reflux babies (I've had 2) so the desire to keep feedings small is understandable but they do need slightly bigger feedings at this point.

It sounds like he's cluster feeding in the evening. This won't always be the case, but if he's hungry feed him. One time our LO drank 12 ounces in one sitting. Do you do anything to test if he's hungry or just fussy? For instance, do you check his diaper or change his position before offering a bottle? We also used to put a knuckle in his mouth and if he sucked we offered a bottle.

Babies often snack in the evenings, whether they are breastfeeding or formula feeding. I would just follow his cues and feed him when he's hungry. For me, at 7 weeks, there wasn't really a differentiation between hungry and fussy... it was all sort of the same thing. Good luck!!

In the evenings I vote no reset. Lots of babies like to eat more often then to tank up for the night.

@Goldengirl: Honestly, I just go with feeding them when they're hungry. I know I probably wasted more formula than many do though. What I would do is try a bigger feed without the top off, but make sure it's the slowest of the slow bottle to help prevent overeating. Lots of bottles advertise "best for breastfed babies"and the like but I think at that age even bottle fed babies need SLOW bottles to help with gas and help prevent overeating and excessive spit up. Or at least my babies both did.

As far as the clock resetting, IMO, no, it doesn't reset if it's just like a small top off. But they change their schedules often so I think you still have to kind of go off of cues.

I wish I could be more help! It's all really trial and error whether breast or bottle. If he takes a paci you could try swapping the top off for that paci and seeing if it helps. 7 weeks can be a fussy time.

I EFF my 7 week old baby and he's typically eating every 3 hours about 3-4.5 ounces. However sometimes, especially lately in the evenings, he gets very fussy and hungry quickly again and I give him a small top up which settles him. So maybe a couple ounces about an hour or hour and a half after his last feed.

My question is, for those who've experienced this, how much did you usually give at the next feed? Does the clock reset after the in-between feed and the next full feed would be at 3ish hours from then? Or is it OK to give the full feed again at 3 hours from the start of the first full feed (and is that the point I should expect him to be hungry)? The schedule is helpful because it keeps me sane and also because I can't always read his cues of hunger vs fussing so wondering what others have done. He has reflux so I don't like to overload his tummy but also want him to eat if we needs it! These evening snacks have thrown me since he was pretty much a 3-hour time bomb before, and still is the rest of the day.
