@Meggo5: I tried the fenugreek first, but it didn't do anything for me, and it made DD really gassy. The More Milk Plus has fenugreek in it, but it didn't upset her stomach like the fenugreek did.

She did well with the formula. I actually put some gripe water in it every other night for a little while to help settle her stomach, if it seemed like it bothered her.

When DS was still EBF we still left a can of formula at daycare in the event of an emergency. We live in an area that is earthquake prone. If something were to happen we wanted to make sure he had enough food until I got to him.

We did one bottle of formula beginning at 3 months at night for our LO. Lucky for us, he took it like a champ and had no issues with one bottle. Once he transitioned to all formula, his BMs were very watery. They were like that for about 2 weeks b/c of him just trying to transition. Now we're back on track again!

I would say to try supplementing one bottle and see how it goes. Try not mixing at first to see if LO will take it...then try mixing if LO rejects it. That way you're not wasting any of the breast milk!

@Meggo5: My DD refused formula too. I even tried mixing it with breastmilk but she refused it and I ended up wasting my breastmilk. I'd suggest mixing just a little bit of BM and formula (if you're going to try mixing) because she might reject it and then you'll end up wasting your BM. I tried 3 different kinds of formula and she ended up liking one one of them (Earth's Best). Can you get samples from your ped? That's what we did (thank goodness cause then we would've wasted so much money on formula).

@Meggo5: You could also look into mixing BM and formula.

So, we tried formula this morning and... He refused it! I think we'll try another brand but I am just so upset. It took me so long to get "psyched up" enough to give it to him and he didn't like it. My husband fed him too :(

I was nervous about moving to formula after EBF LO for 5 months. However, it just got to the point where I was too stressed out and I decided to add 1 bottle a day. Turns out LO loves formula and it took a lot of stress out of my life and it was then easier to pump since I wasn't worried about if I was or wasn't pumping enough.

Yes, I EBF but near the end (towards a year) I pulled out some formula when I was gone for a business trip just in case. I agree with trying it out at home first.

30 ounces is a great freezer stash! It sounds like you are doing great and maybe some MMP would help a bunch too!

@Meggo5: DD is exclusively fed breast milk, but I decided to keep a few packs of formula in her diaper bag just in case I forget to give someone milk. Before I did this, I gave her a bottle at home to make sure she didn't have a bad reaction to it, and she didn't. The taste didn't bother her either, but she's a pretty easygoing baby.

I have no experience adding formula after ebf, because it became clear in the first week or two that i had supply issues.
I realized that adding formula was the best option for us.
I feed him all the breast milk i have available, nurse, and if i have nothing left and hes still hungry i go to the formula.
I would say hes about 30% supplemented with formula

@BabyBoecksMom: I've been anxious to try More Milk Plus. Thanks for letting me know how it worked for you. I take fenugreek and am looking for something else.

How did your LO react to the formula?

I hesitated giving formula, but I couldn't ignore the fact that I wasn't producing enough for her at one point. So I actually sent all breastmilk to daycare and gave her a bottle of formula at bedtime. Whatever I pumped was sent to daycare the next day. After a couple months back at work, my supply dipped so much, I started taking More Milk Plus, and I ended up with an over supply, so now I swear by the stuff.

As many of you know, I've been stressing a lot about pumping and having enough milk for daycare. I went back to work last week and did ok with my supply and bottles, but had a lot of anxiety about whether or not I'd make enough milk for the next day. In fact, on Thursday, in had to pick him up early because I had one less bottle than he needed.

I have a small freezer stash (about 30 oz) and spend much of the day worrying about how much milk I'm pumping.

Everyone is telling me that I should just try out some formula to see how he'll do with it. I know this is the right thing to do since it will ensure that I'll always have something to feed him (and also can leave additional emergency feeds with his caregiver) but I feel stuck even trying formula out. I am all for formula but have EBF (now pumping while at work) since he was born.

Has anyone else had trouble trying out formula, even if your intention is just to have a backup feed?
