@ladybee: do you have a flex spending account? You should be able to use that if insurance won't cover it.

@MrsF: we have really good insurance but it doesn't sound like it'll be covered. I think it depends on the state. Apparently Ohio is lacking.

We used nutramigen and it was like a miracle (though I think any hypoallergenic formula would have done the same thing). My baby had cried for the first three months of her life and the nutramigen worked almost overnight.

And my insurance covered it 100% with a dr's prescription ! We don't have the best insurance and I couldn't believe it.

@brownie: @swedishfish: I feel bad because I'm not even sure if MSPI is what he has or would have. I think it is because he can't tolerate soy or milk based formula.

R is on Alimentum. Our insurance picks up the majority of the cost. It smells bad but she's never had a reaction to it like she had to milk protein formulas and soy formula.

ETA - our ped said to try Alimentum at first and Nutramigen was the next step.

We had to do neocate which was very expensive but totally worth it. It was what turned my son around as far as his issues. We didn't do prescription even though he had one we bought directly from the company and we deducted it on our taxes.

Our doctor thinks we should switch LO from Isomil (soy) to Alimentum to rule out a soy allergy on top of milk allergy. It's like double the cost. Does anyone have experience with Alimentum or Nutramigen?

Has insurance ever helped out for anyone when switching to such a costly formula?
