@Mrs. Blue: That's exactly what C has too. And he often leaves 1-2 oz, depending on his mood. He's also a peanut!

That's in addition to 1-2 meals of stage 1 purees. C is only 5.5 months, but just to give you an idea!

@Mrs Green Grass: Not to thread jack, but can you give me some specific examples of how you add fats and oils to LOs food? I've been thinking of doing this since my boys are great eaters but don't love bottles at all.

@Smurfette: E & F eat 6 oz. bottles 5-6 day, but they don't always finish every single one. So, I would say a total of somewhere around 24-28 oz. They just don't eat more than that at a time, so we still feed them more often. Sometimes it's hard to even get 6 oz down them, so I can't imagine trying to do 8 oz. Of course, my dudes are peanuts, too, so what do I know?!

DS is 10m now, but was drinking 8oz bottles at 4-5m, I kid you not. Granted, he is a giant, but still. He has a bottle every 4 hours (4 times a day). He's 25lbs, and 34.5'' tall.

I think the fact that she went UP in percentiles shows how normal it is for kids' growth to slow down around that age. She's moving a lot and burning a lot of calories. I wouldn't worry about it unless she was dropping weight or seemed unwell in some way. Stick to fatty solids and make every bite count (so no empty calories--if my LO snacks I make sure it's something like cheese, toast with PB, etc rather than puffs, although I of course use those too when necessary :) ).

@blackbird: well she certainly doesn't look like a total fatty!
@Bookish: Maybe my R does want more. Sometimes she sucks on the empty bottle, but then I take it and she is fine. I would think she would cry if she wanted more.

I don't know. Girlfriend is just all over the place crawling and cruising. Doesn't sit still.

@blackbird: Thank you.. I don't feel like the only one with a fatty kid now ;) My girl is 96% for height and 55% for weight.. I'm not terribly surprised she slurps the darn formula like it's going out of style.. but man, I didn't know it was that out of the ordinary! Hah!

yikes 8 oz's seems like so much! Lil B only eats 4 oz now, but he eats 6 times a day. He BF's in the am- and has 3 breastmilk bottles at daycare and 2 formula bottles at home at night while I am still at work.

I think it's more difficult to get a baby to drink more than it is to give her a heavier meal. My 8 month old does some 6 oz bottles, some 8 oz bottles....really just depends. About 5 to 6 bottles/day (sometimes she likes 2oz at 530am). But she's taking 40-45 oz/day probably with only two solid meals (and sometimes only one)

okay my kid sounds like a giant fatty but she's 75% for height and 55% for weight or so

@Mrs. Polish: We have great days and then mornings like this morning where I was covered it spit up.
@MamaMoose: I think I am going to focus on fatty table foods. I mean her 10 bottle, she only ate 5 ozs. That would have been 3ozs wasted.

At that age my son was taking five 5 oz bottles a day (maybe his bed bottle was 6 or 7) plus 3 meals and afternoon snack. He was about 15 lbs. he was a peanut but born that way and I don think he could eat anymore than he was. At 12 months he was 18 lbs and at 19 months is 22 lbs.

Sounds like your LO is eating and drinking well and is just growing at her own pace.

@Smurfette: So her percentile has gone up! That's great! Honestly I would not increase her bottles. She's obviously thriving. Some babies are just small. M has always been around the 15th%. 18lbs, 8ozs at her 12 month appointment and the doctor has never mentioned anything about increasing her calories.

I think DS was taking about 24-28oz/day at that age.

I hear you on the bottle size....8oz seems HUGE. I know he never had more than 6oz at a time, maaaaaybe 7 at bedtime if he hadnt eaten a lot during the day. DS is a totally average size (50th%).

Can you get her to drink 5 bottles? morning, bedtime, and 3 meals (or snacks)?

I think 4 6-oz is a good amount. My lo is a petite eater, so 24 is pretty much his max ever. We add fats and oils to all of his food to boost calories and "make every bite count." We also fortify the formula to make it have more calories. If you are concerned about calories, not ounces, that might be a solution, but ask you doc first.

Whoa. That sounds like a LOT. We didn't do formula but M topped out at 5 ounces of breastmilk every three hours, and then dropped back to 4 ounces once she was regularly eating solids. What was R's percentile for weight at 6 months vs. at 9 months?

R had her 9 month appointment this morning. She gained nothing in almost a month and half. She weight 16.10lbs, which is 2lbs higher then her 6 month weight. She grew 2 inches, so is growing. She has chub, I mean look at her thighs. The doctor wants to make sure we do one fatty food at least one meal a day. Also want to her to increase her bottles to 8ozs.

That seems like a lot to me. Right now she gets 4 6ozs bottles. She pretty much eats every 2 hours, between bottles and table food. I think she is just going to spit up even more if we increase to 8 ozs.

What is/was your 9 month old drinking?
