@pachamama: I’m the same as you. Before bed I would just fill the water in one bottle and I had those little formula holder things for travel and I kept those portioned. Set them out before bed and when I’d hear him all I had to do was pour the premeasured formula into the premeasured water and shake.
With my first I was like making pitchers of formula and keeping it in the fridge or premaking bottles and keeping them in the fridge then heating. And heating is the hardest part, I only realized with my 2nd. If it’s all measured and I just have to dump it in the bottle and shake while I walk to his room it was so much faster and easier. I did that during the day too.

@lindseykaye: no one ever mentioned it to me either, I just happened to come across it in a Facebook group! It’s interesting because in the UK and I believe other European countries, they recommend always combining hot water with the powder regardless of age. Not sure why it’s different here!

I had no clue about the CDC rec for cronobacter (and I'm in food safety?!) so we've never done anything but room temp water and formula. But - I purchased water vs. using the tap so I felt better about the water source, even though the formula sterility was never on my mind.
It's been a lot easier if with room temp bottles so that if we're away from the house we don't have to worry about bottle rejection on the go. Every baby is different though, and if you're formula feeding from birth vs. starting a little later and you want to be more conservative about the formula/water sterility it seems like all of the above have really good tips!

@Becky: in the U.S., the CDC says to warm the water to "no less than 158F" and then mix with the formula to prevent cronobacter infection (which would come from the powder, not the water) for at least the first three months. I personally still use the electric kettle to heat the water to 160F before making formula for my eight month old, just to be on the safe side. The kettle makes it super easy. She actually eats the formula or pumped breast milk cold! If you boil the water, I think they suggest waiting to let it cool a little bit before mixing into the powder, but again, not less than 158 because below that temp won't kill any potential bacteria in the powder. Above 158 will, so it doesn't need to be as hot as boiling when combined. Hopefully that all makes sense! https://www.cdc.gov/cronobacter/prevention.html

Okay so now I have confused myself. Out of curiosity I looked up how to prep a bottle of formula. In the UK they say always boil the water first since formula isn’t sterile. In the US they say only for the first 3-5 months do you need to boil it, and that you shouldn’t mix the formula in until the water has cooled down (so you’re boiling to kill bacteria in the water, not the formula). And then if you boil it you need to wait like 15 minutes for it to cool. Anyone know what’s up with the different recommendations?

@foodiebee: I’m sure my measurements were somewhat off. DD didn’t have any problems though so I didn’t worry about it, especially since I was following the directions on the container and I think most people do that right? My mom and MIL did the same when making the bottles for DD so I figured it was normal.

I use a temperature-controlled electric kettle to warm water for formula bottles. Super easy! I only make about six to eight ounces of formula on weekdays, though, to add to what I pump. I can see how the Brezza would be nice if you're making more formula, and I might consider it in that case!

@pachamama: @Becky: FYI we found that when we used the scoop that came with the formula that we were actually measuring a good bit less or more of the powder than we needed due to differences with scooping, how compact the powder was, etc. We now use our kitchen scale to make sure we have the correct gram amounts with each bottle. This has helped our formula go further (i.e. more time between purchases!) and I've noticed easier BMs for my DS. We use a formula container to premeasure the powder, so when we need to make a formula bottle, we can just dump and go.

ETA @pinkb this is what we did. Filtered water at room temp mixed with formula. We warm breast milk bottles in a bottle warmer but not any formula supplementing we do.

I have heard the brezza doesn't always measure correctly which can be dangerous to the baby. I wanted it for # 3 until I heard that. I went with a filter brita water pitcher I kept on the counter so it was always room temp this time, but have already ditched it at 8 months. Easy enough. We warmed bottles for #1 and it was a mistake because she wouldn't eat it any other way. So room temp for the next 2 kids.
@pachamama: I have been know this time around to throw the glass bottle in the microwave for 30 seconds if the tap water is too cold.

@pachamama: I used the measuring cup for the water, so I could stick it in the microwave. I just used the scoop that came with the formula to scoop the powder (while the water was in the microwave—all about efficiency!).

@pachamama: measuring cup or bottle they're the same measuring device (most measuring cups have ounces on them). I always just dumped a bunch of water into my measuring cup heated it in the microwave and there poured the right amount into the bottle.

I also had pre-measured formula containers so if my son was drinking 6oz regularly it has 3 scoops so I didn't have to measure in the middle of the night.

Baby breeza looked cool to me but was never worth the money since we're mostly breast fed in the beginning and then my son would drink cold or room temperature formula just fine.

@pachamama: Yep, this was me! Most of the time though I’d just put the water in a measuring cup, stick it in the microwave for 45 seconds while I put the formula in the bottle, and shake it on my way upstairs (so a 2 minute process from the time I left my room, tops). At daycare they don’t warm the bottles anyway so DD never cared.

Geesh I just use warm water from the tap at the bedtime feeding, and room temperature otherwise! Am I doin it wrong? 😆
Can't you also microwave water for 45 seconds too? We use glass bottles so sometimes I do that before I add formula😬

The Brezza is amazing! Especially for nighttime feeds when you just want the bottle fast. It’s the best money I spent in the first few months! Cleaning is annoying but you really only have to do a full cleaning once a month. The rest of the time, just wipe down.

I used a Boon bottle warmer for my kids. I hated how it either was too hot or not hot enough. You needed an engineering degree to figure out how much water to put in each time.

My sisters uses a Brezza and it is amazing. It makes the perfect temperature bottle in seconds. If it was around when I had my kids I would have definitely purchased one!

Has anyone used a Baby Brezza formula making machine? Was it worth the cost or more of a hassle to keep clean? It seems like there are really mixed reviews out there. Alternatively, I found an electric kettle that heats to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (so essentially body temperature) and was considering that instead since heating up water and then pouring it into a bottle to mix/shake with the formula powder seems like way less work than keeping the Brezza clean. Has anyone tried using an electric water kettle with an adjustable temp setting as an alternative to pre-mixing the formula and using an old school bottle warmer? I should note that we have an old Born bottle warmer but that thing is sooooo slow to warm up. The added perk of using an electric tea kettle is that it would be usable after the baby outgrows the formula stage.
