We used Earths Best Organic and Holle. If you want to get really cray cray (like me) you can order Holle organic baby formula from Germany! Or make your own (I didn't try that...but a friend did).

I find whatever works for your baby is best. I pumped exclusively and gave my daughter BM for the first month and a half of her life, but I started not responding to the pump after mastitis and my baby couldn't nurse because of ties and a high palate, so I had to switch to formula 100%. I went through Gerber and Enfamil and Similac Sensitive did the best for her. After a ton of guilt though , I decided to try Earth's Best Sensitive. WORST MISTAKE. Her poop WAS AWFUL and she was in horrible pain all the time. It was so bad :(

So whatever works is best. <3 You can feed your baby/child totally organic foods when they start solids, which is what I'm doing!

Edit: I want to agree with the PP who recced not reading internet research. SO TRUE. DON'T DO IT. It made me so depressed, even though my entire family was FF and my mom helped me and supported me through everything. My PPD was blown up so much because of the internet. I never faced negative FF comments in person, but online? It was awful. Seriously, don't do it. Your mental health is more important. <3

@shortcake: We feed our daughter organic whole cow's milk but she always had regular formula. The upsides of regular formula that I outlined outweighed organic for us, but LO eats/drinks probably 70% organic at home.

@ShootingStar: This is the article I read about the possible link between organic formula and obesity: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/19/us/19formula.html?_r=0

We used regular because we tried organic for a short time and it caused bad constipation.

We eat a lot of other organic foods (meat, milk, some fruits/veg) but in that moment I had to go with the one that worked best for my kid at the time. Sorry you're feeling bad about this - it's hard but I would suggest no more internet "research" because there's way too much fear mongering and bad info out there (easier said than done, I know!). You could talk to your ped if you're concerned.

I think organic is the way to go if you can afford it. We started supplementing with formula around 7 months and now (9 months) my baby is mostly on formula during the day while I'm at work. We use Earth's Best formula. Here is an article that I found really helpful:

http://foodbabe.com/2013/05/28/how-to-find-the-safest-organic-infant-formula/

"organic formula is still a far better choice than conventional formula, with its genetically engineered ingredients (GMOs), milk from cows that were likely treated with antibiotics or artificial growth hormones, and oils that were processed with the use of neurotoxic solvents like hexane. Major ingredients in conventional formula are derived from crops that were sprayed with harmful pesticides and herbicides in the field and likely fumigated in storage."

We used Baby's Only Organic. I had no choice but to supplement, and wanted to use organic formula ... We try to eat organic food, so it made sense. We used this guide from our former pediatrician to help choose: http://www.integrativepediatricsonline.com/blog/2014/02/28/which-organic-formula-is-best/

It was $10/can, which I found reasonable.

@Meowkers: I know this isn't your question and I apologize for going off topic, but I've had great success with day weaning and still breastfeeding between about 6pm and 6am. It took about 3 weeks to train my body, but it helped with some of my formula feeding guilt. I also don't have the option to pump at work because of my job, so E gets non organic formula during the day and breastmilk at night. Just something to think about, best of luck in whatever you decide, they're all wonderful ways to nourish your baby!

Like @MrsF: we went with non-organic because we absolutely needed hypoallergenic. And although we generally eat/feed organic and from scratch in our home, organic formula just wasn't a priority for us before the allergies. I did feel bad when I scrutinized the ingredient list, but when a doula chastised me saying formula feeding would kill my child, I decided enough was enough.

(Finally figured out what I was trying to say - making each of the ingredients organic wouldn't have changed what they really were for me. Like buying a box of organic cookies.)

We didn't use organic because we needed hypoallergenic.

FWIW - I weaned my daughter before going back to work because I just felt so incredibly stressed already and the idea of pumping was too much. The switch allowed me to keep my sanity and finally bond with my daughter. Two years later she is thriving and has hardly ever been sick. It's wonderful that you've BF up until now, but breast isn't always best, in my opinion. I hope things go well for you!

Do you plan to give your baby organic cows milk after she turns one? If so, buy organic formula. Less growth hormones, antibiotics and pesticides, higher omega 3 levels and lower omega 6 levels and the cows that produce organic milk are usually allowed to graze and are not fed soy or corn and their feed does not contain GMO's.

I supplement with organic formula and we drink organic milk and try to stay away from the "dirty dozen" for fruits and vegetables. All formula available in the US uses soy and is sweetened. Some of the sweetening is needed because it needs to be highly caloric to simulate the calories in breast milk (which itself is pretty sweet due to lactose).

If organic dairy, meat, fruit and vegetables are not important overall in how your family eats, then save the money and buy regular formula.

I used regular for 2 reasons. One, I needed formula to be readily available. Some of the organic ones, like Nature's Own, I could only find online. We had plenty of times where we practically ran out and all we had to do was go to Target.

The other reason was the ingredients. Most of the organic ones contain corn syrup solids. I thought it sounded crazy to add what I thought were sweeteners to baby formula. Turns out it's not the same as high fructose corn syrup, like I thought.

Do some research on formula, maybe try the Fearless Formula feeder. Formula is a perfectly healthy way to feed your baby. I tried to pump at work and I just couldn't do it with my job. So my son was EFF for 5 months, and he's perfectly fine :).

@daniellemybelle: That's really funny, because I've read that there's not much point in trying to feed babies veggies first vs. fruits because they already have a sweet tooth because breastmilk is so sweet.
