@Mama Bird: hahaha he says that all the time to me- "YOU need to go to bed."
"Nope. I'm the adult. I can go to bed whenever I want."
But he does push bedtime. He's typically not in bed until 9:30 these days and I go to bed at 10, so there's no such thing as the 2-3 hours I used to have to myself in the evenings lol

@MamaG: @winniebee: @looch: @KT326: @PinkElephant: yes, the nap has been a problem for a long time now! Thankfully he starts pre K soon and I think they don't make everyone sleep, the kids have an option to play quietly instead.

@Mrs. Pen: haha maybe they're starting to work out that the adults get to stay up past their bedtime! DS told me several times that he'll go to bed when mommy and daddy do... nope, not happening, I need that little bit of me time!

@cascademom: yes the stalling is so bad! The latest thing is "the bedtime story wasn't long enough"

Sounds like us. It's a lot of stalling and nap. He still needs the nap because he turns into a cranky monster without it. He naps at daycare but only for an hour. At home, it's about the same. Stalling is our biggest enemy.

Ahh sounds the same as mine except that now he has this need to sleep with us. Every night we put him to bed in his room, and he ends up in or bed over and over again. He never stays in his bed.

And he doesn't nap during the day.
It's so weird.

@Mama Bird: Agree with others, DROP THAT NAP, but will also chime in that DD1, who is newly 4 as well, has recently been complaining that she "just CAN'T fall asleep!" (imagine this said in a dramatic angsty teenager way, haha) after being in bed for about 30 seconds. I personally think she's just trying out some new bedtime stalling techniques...maybe something clicks at this age where they realize they've got a bit of power over whether or not they go to sleep?

Yup, my 4.5 year old was having a terrible time falling asleep until he moved classes. He still has to nap at daycare but they have been able to cut it down from 2 hours to 1 hour. I wish we could drop it all together but they only have one class that doesn't nap and it is full. So we just deal with a slightly later bedtime at home.

Yep, it's the nap. If he's having trouble falling asleep or it's taking a long time, it's time to drop the nap.

Definitely the nap! LO is now 5 and still was napping pretty consistently until starting school this week. We could always tell when she did skip the nap because sleep was quicker to come at night.

@winniebee: yeah, maybe that's it! He still has to nap in day care so maybe he's just getting more sleep than he needs. He dropped the nap at home a long time ago!

My son shaved 30 minutes off his night sleep at 4. He doesn't nap, either. Now he sleeps 10 hours, flat. Ahhh.

Does this exist? DS is almost four and lately he's having a lot of trouble falling asleep. His routine hasn't changed, he's not munching on candy before bed, and it seems like he's trying to fall asleep but just can't. I wonder if toddlers get developmental sleep regressions, like babies do!
