It's really, really hard. I thought I might physically break in half. BUT, it really does get better and it becomes more normal. I still have times I really miss them, but there are really great things about working outside the home, too. I try to focus on that, and the fact that our boys LOVE their daycare teachers. It really will be okay. Just let yourself be sad, but also focus on the good things like enjoying an uninterrupted lunch & a conversation with an adult! Hang in there!

Also I cried and cried on day two. Day one was fun, day two sooo miserable.

7 weeks later, working part time, I can now say I am okay with it. It's not ideal, but baby girl needs stuff, and stuff is expensive.

@MrsH: it's going to be okay, not easy, but okay and eventually it gets better, Dh watches the baby while I work 30hrs a week at the office. I appreciate every minute with her that much more.

Good luck! The first couple weeks are incredibly tough but I promise that it does get easier. I also left DD home with DH so there was a comfort there knowing she was in the best hands possible. Now I look so forward to coming home, as she runs to the door with the biggest smile on her face yelling MAMA

The anticipation was brutal!!! But actually going back felt good! Using my brain, being me again...it all came back really quickly and I felt great. It's not easy being away from her but I really am happy to be back. And it's fun taking pumping breaks to look at pics and think about her. The day flies by! Good luck!!

I can totally relate and feel your anxiety and pain. Drop offs get easier after awhile, and the excitement of going to pick up your LO is awesome! You'll be okay. Looking at pictures during the day really helps!

@MrsH: The anticipation was much worse than going back. My DH was home with LO for a month after I went back and I loved getting pics/videos from him. Do you have a Foscam? I loved that I could look in on her while she was napping during the day, too :)

I think you have a lot going for you, in terms of having your husband at home doing the care. You don't have the hassel of getting your LO awake, you don't have to pack bags, you don't have the exposure to other sick children. It's going to allow you to focus on being back at work and doing what you need to do.

It's going to be great!

The anticipation for going back to work was awful, and I barely slept the night before going back to work. Once I actually went back, I was much happier, and I was able to be really present when I was home with LO. My DH also SAH, and this made a huge difference, both practically, and knowing the LO is with someone who loves him all day. Now, LO is 8 months, and DH does the cooking, cleaning, and most of the errands, so I can concentrate on spending quality time with LO in the evenings and weekends. In the early days, not as much stuff got done.

Totally normal. I had a freak out the weekend I went back. It sucks not being with her all day, but the happiness she has when I come home or pick her up is the best. Plus, she enjoys all the other things and people she gets to see.

Honestly, the anticipation was worse for me. Once I went back it was okay. Not that I didn't miss her but it wasn't the panic that I thought I'd have. A colleague mommy told me not to expect to do much the first week other than to just get in a routine and be used to being away from DD. That really helped!

It'll be ok :) I was terribly anxious about going back, but once I did, I was so much happier. It was like ripping off a bandaid. It took us a while to get in our groove, but she's 9 months now and although I miss her during the day, we squeeze in lots of quality time and I don't feel like I'm missing the 'big' things!

I had weeks of sleepless nights before I went back to work because I was so anxious. I've been back for a few months and althought I don't love leaving her to go to work, the anticipation of leaving her was definitely worse the reality.

@LMOG47: @MrsH: this could be for another thread, but I would love to hear about your experiences being the sole breadwinners. We've been tossing out possible scenarios for working and life, and that's one that came up!

@MrsH: That sounds very hard, and I hope knowing that others have been there, done that, and survived can make you feel a little better!

That is the exact same thing I felt when I went back to work a couple months ago. DH is also the SAH so at least there was the comfort of knowing they're with him, but still. To be honest, it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I still miss them desperately during the day (who wouldn't) but they don't go to bed til 9-10ish so I still have the whole evening with them. Hang in there, I'll be thinking of you!

I think I am on the verge of having a panic attack about going back to work tomorrow. I know women all over the world go back to work and I have no intention of leaving my job because I'm the sole breadwinner, it does bring me comfort to know DH will be home with her but I am still freaking out that I'm not going to get to see her all day, will miss her doing things, feel like I'm not going to be fully present at work. Ahhhhh! Cue racing heart and the panicky feeling.

Please tell me it will be okay and that you felt like this too but going back to work was ok.
