@Anagram: Oh right. Makes sense that the pulpiness is probably the biggest factor.

@anbanan15: He'll probably like the grape juice since he likes grapes. I hope you find something he'll like!!!

@Anagram: That was my thought too. She said if I could get "clear" pineapple juice lol. I've never heard of such a thing and kept thinking isn't it already clear?

@banana: maybe it's the pulp issue? Or is there pulpless pineapple juice? Because veggie broth isn't totally clear, either. It's cloudy, but has no fragments...which is their main concern I think. They don't want anything still sticking to the walls of the colon, which would obscure what they can see.

@banana: Aww I'm so sorry your LO also had to go through this! I was shocked when she said it wasn't clear enough, because she suggested apple and pear (which he can't have) and when I think pineapple I think that is more clear than the amber color of apple juice?

DS knows which foods he can eat, so I plan on removing all of them from the house before the 48 hours starts so he doesn't freak out over wanting certain things or climb into the fridge and get them out himself...which he does.

@Anagram: Yes I had them myself as well, but had the Moviprep. Thankfully he doesn't have to drink that yummy stuff! haha.

I can't do donated breastmilk because he reacted to the proteins in my BM and I could only eat his safe foods. The chances of finding donor milk that match our list is slim to none. I could try the jello combo now, but it takes us 7-14 days to trial a new food provided he actually eats it right away and if he reacts it can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks for the reaction to clear. The scope is the 29th so we only have a little over 2 weeks before.

@anbanan15: Sorry you have to deal with all of this! My son had reflux and it was not a pleasant experience so I can imagine this is much more stressful than that. Veggie/chicken broth sounds like a great clear liquid suggestion! I can't believe pineapple juice isn't "clear" enough. I guess it has to be super clear, like water?

@looch: We have never tried cranberry either. Haha the list is super small. Fruits we have blueberries, strawberries, grapes, pineapple, banana and clementines. Out of them she only approved white grape. Err Thank you though!

@anbanan15: oh wow...that's a horrible situation. I've had to do a colonoscopy prep 3 times for my own colonoscopies (family history of early colon cancer and GERD), but I'm an adult.

Is there a breast milk bank/donation center in your area that you could get milk from for those 2 days?

I always do the veggie broth/lemon jellow/white grape juice combination the nurse is suggesting. Any chance you could test the jello now to see if he has any problems with it?

@anbanan15: I understand it to be a good pairing with grape and cranberry juices, so if you can get the white cranberry (clear), would that be a possibility? Not sure what's on your son's list of safe foods.

You're doing great!

@looch: I have thought about doing an agar agar trial in the past, but again we have not tried it yet, so I'm not sure how that would go? I'm not sure but I would assume it would be clear since it's used in vegan gelatin?

@edelweiss: Thanks. I don't mind answering! It's basically exploratory...They are checking to see why his reflux is not responding to meds (he has been on an adult dose of Prevacid since mid-March...which we do not particularly like but he needs to be on this dose for a min of 4-6 weeks to get an accurate diagnosis on the scope) and then taking some biopsies throughout his GI tract to check for eosinophilic esophagitis and other EGID's. He has had a hoarse voice and coughing and choking while eating, sometimes while sleeping and they think EoE is the reasons, which would also explain why his reflux doesn't respond to the meds. While we are nervous about the procedure, even though it is a rather routine one, we do understand that it has come to this point since he just turned 2 and we are still dealing with these issues getting worse not better. We are also nervous that the scope is going to be clean, which will upset me because we will have no answers and we would have ended up putting him through all of this for no reason.

Does agar agar count as clear? When I read "gelatin" it immediately popped into my mind, wondering if you could use that?

@anbanan15: oh the veggie broth is a good idea! i hope the nurse approves it. you have so much on your plate right now--hang in there! is the procedure exploratory/for informational purposes or will they do something corrective during the procedure? you don't have to answer, and either way, i hope it goes well.

@edelweiss: Thanks. He can't have any meat :/. I might be able to make a veggie broth from safe veggies? Not sure if that is clear enough?

She kept stressing the clearness...I tried to ask if pineapple juice was also an option and she said it's not clear enough. He is just super picky on top of things and I don't know if he will actually eat these things when it comes down to it. I guess we will cross that bridge when we get to it in 2 weeks. She said to call if he isn't drinking anything by 3pm the day before (which incidentally is when I have my next prenatal appointment).

aw i'm sorry--on top of an already stressful situation you're having to think about what he can eat and if he's getting enough calories! i haven't had to do anything similar with my LO so i don't have much advice to offer. besides white grape juice and popsicles, how about chicken broth?

LO is having an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy at the end of the month and I just got off the phone with the a nurse from anesthesiology about his medical history and prep. I'm REALLY nervous now after talking to her!!

He needs to be on a full liquid diet 48 hours before and a CLEAR liquid diet 24 hours before the procedure and have an enema the morning of, which we have never given him. The problem with this diet is that his daily diet is SO limited and there really isn't much that fits into these categories that he can have. On top of that he will only willingly drink breastmilk (which we used the last of last Monday, unless by some miracle some is hiding somewhere that I overlooked! Wish I would have known and saved some) and his Splash. He really will not drink water....we actually dilute his Splash to keep his liquid intake up :/....After going through the list of options we have the nurse basically only approved white grape juice out of his safe fruits for him to drink or have in popsicles. The problem is he has never had juice of any kind! He can have grapes and raisins so I'm assuming 100% grape juice would be okay. She kept suggesting gelatin but he has never had it and has trouble with meats so I hesitate to try it and wouldn't a reaction right before a scope be even worse? She just kept saying we NEED to keep his sugars up or "we will be in trouble". Basically just venting as I'm getting really nervous here! Anyone else have any experience with a similar situation?
