The best advice I can give you is to focus on a specific niche -- it's very hard to be a freelance generalist. I had to stop because I didn't "need" the income and was attempting to do it with no childcare and while I was (am) battling some major health issues. Elna Cain has a few free email courses. As does Jorden Roper of Writers Revolt. I got a few good ghostwriting jobs on problogger but ghostwriting isn't great for advancement.
