Ok so it's not as complicated as I thought. I'll keep the SW bra I have, try getting used to it at home during maternity leave, and keep the Freemie cups still in mind as a possibility when I got back to work. Thanks everyone!

I really like my dairy fairy bra. It's a real bra, so I don't have to put on a pumping bra over another bra. I just pull my shirt up, throw my flanges in, and go. Saves me a lot of time

Same as MrsF and everyone else, I use the Simple Wishes. I LOOOVE it. I also was initially confused by the fact that you can't just wear it like a normal bra or a nursing bra, but once I got the hang of zipping it over top of my (unclipped) nursing bra, I realized it's so much more convenient than any other pumping setup. I just leave it in my pumping bag.

@kiddosc: Duh. That makes sense. I tired one on in the store and tried doing compressions over the bra and it didn't work well but I didn't think about putting my hand under it. I stand corrected. Then I think the SW would be a good option

But I still think compressions wouldn't work well with the freemies or would at least defeat their purpose.

@JenGirl: I had no problem doing breast compression with the simple wishes bra. I just had to stick my hand in the bra.

Yep same as above. I put a medela hands free bra on over my nursing bra and pumped that way. I worked on my laptop while I pumped, or used my phone.

I am on my second baby and second time pumping at work with the simple wishes bra. It has been great for me! As others have said, I pull my shirt up, unhook the nursing bra and zip on the simple wishes bra. A tank top will be your best friend at the beginning if you are uncomfortable. Once I am set up and hooked up to the pump, I continue to work at my desk. I also always keep a nursing cover in my pump bag so you can talk to people if you have to. I even staff cases and have conversations with people while i pump under the cover at this point because I don't care, but I think my office is not the norm for this.

Pumping seems really intimidating at first but once you get used to it, it is really not a big deal!

Personally, I don't like either of those options because you can't do breast compression while pumping, which is a big deal for me. I get about 50% more milk out when I use compression. So I use this super cheap hands free pumping "bra" http://www.amazon.com/Simplicity-Hands-Free-Pumping-Bra/dp/B00GDJRQPY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451595425&sr=8-1&keywords=simplicity+hands+free+pumping+bra

As for logistics, I always wear a nursing bra that I can pull down without taking off. So I pull up my shirt, pull down the bra and put the hands free pumping bra on over my shirt. Because it's basically just elastic, it goes over anything you're wearing. Then I can pump with compressions. Still some maneuvering, but I don't have to take off my bra or shirt.

I have the medela bra from my 1st go round. A pumping bra is a necesssity for me. I flip down my nursing bra and tank and put the pump bra over it and am ready to go. I pump in my office with windows covered and a locked door. I can work while I pump. I also pump at home and get more milk with the pumping bra and massaging.

I also did the same as @MrsF

I don't know much about the freemie, but would worry that it wasn't as effective and would therefore decrease supply.

I did the same as @MrsF:

I would usually wear a tank under my scrub top. I would take off my scrub top and pull my tank up and u do my nursing bra and put the simple wishes bra overtop of everything. Sometimes I'd put a nursing cover over my front if I felt exposed.

The freemie system sound great in theory but I have heard that they can leak or get to full and spill if you move certain ways and that would be a mess.

I pumped for a year and never used a nursing bra. Didn't find it necessary. However, I never needed to do work while I was pumping - I went off the floor and pumped in a nursing lounge in the NICU. I used it as my 2 15-minute breaks.

ETA: Meant to say never used a hands-free bra.

I didn't use either of them. Well, I had a Simple Wishes bra but I absolutely hated it and it was just a hassle. I just unhooked the cups on my nursing bra, stuck the flanges on my boobs, and held them in place with one arm while I used the other hand to look at my phone. I pumped in a storage closet without a desk for most of my pumps, so I also balanced the pump on my knees or a box.

I never tried the Freemie but I loved the simple wishes bra. I just kept it in my pumping bag - pulled my shirt up, undid my nursing bra and put the simple wishes bra on top of that without taking the shirt or nursing bra off. I also put a nursing cover on top of the whole getup because there was no lock on the door.

I think I was wary of the freemie because I had to use my hands quite a bit to get enough milk and I didn't think you could really do that with the freemie. Also I liked being able to see how much I was pumping. I never tried it though!

Pumping at work is definitely not convenient, but you get into a routine and it becomes second nature.

I'm a teacher and I will be pumping at work 2x a day while my students are at specials and at lunch. I can pump in either my "back room" (like a bigggg walk-in closet, 10ft by 15ft) or my classroom. Both have locking doors with windows I can cover. The backroom gives me the extra protection of "another" door just in case.

I've started thinking more and more about the logistics of pumping at work and realizing some unanticipated complications, and I'm wondering if you all can help me understand how it all "works."

I bought a Simple Wishes hands-free bra, because it's recommended so many places. But the more I think about it, the more it seems complicated.... Like, the SW bra is really lumpy, so I couldn't wear it as a normal bra. So, in order to pump, I'd have to take off my shirt AND my normal bra, zip the SW bra on, pump, package up/label/store the milk; take off the SW bra, and then get re-dressed...... what a headache! And not to mention, totally awkward-feeling, sitting there half-naked. With the freemie system, I could seemingly stay at my computer & slip the cups in & out, pour, and store.

Am I over-thinking this? If you used either system, what are your thoughts?

I have a Medela PISA already, I'm just holding back on buying the Freemie cups (which attach to the Medela) because they're $60 and I'm a little tired of all the money I've already spent on breastfeeding/pumping gear.
