Is it ata certain time of day? DS used to have accidents frequently in the evening. He’d come home from daycare and start playing, eat dinner, and get a few minutes of tablet time and get so distracted by the tablet he’d start having an accident and then run to the bathroom. It was a combination of having his last potty time be time too far away plus distraction.

I would guess she’s probably too distracted by what she’s doing or just doesn’t feel like it. I’d set up a regular schedule and have it be an expectation and routine so she doesn’t argue. So for us for a long time DS was supposed to go potty as soon as he got home at night. Eventually his bladder control got better and it’s a non issue now.

I wonder if having her not wear undies at home would help her. Maybe feeling it trickle down your leg and puddle will drive home what's happening.

Also making her stop everything she is doing and do the clean up. Spay and paper towels and put her clothing into the washing machine. If it's a big too do she might realize that it's easier to just go in the potty.

Or just ignore it, say pee how's in the potty, not in our clothes and move on.

If it's about attention then maybe less is key.

My lo is younger but he goes through phases of just not paying attention to his body because he's too busy. I just have to remind his to go all the time. But we are still in that phase of potty training.

I was nanny for a girl who would do this at 4. It was about attention and would be me crazy.

Well we had our doctor appointment and unlikely to be a uti, though we’re waiting on lab results. The doctor had zero suggestions other than to ask her to sit longer (which I’ve already been doing). I’m so tired of cleaning up pee.

@Corduroy: @Mrsbells: Thanks for sharing your experiences. How long did this phase last? We are on day 3 and I’m losing my mind. Did you do anything that helped them stop? I know for nap/bedtime she’s using it as an excuse to get out of bed (although actually peeing in her underwear before she gets to the toilet is new) but I have no idea why she’s doing it all day long.

@Aria: DD went through a similar phase and we figured out that when she was playing with certain toys or watching certain things on tv she tried to hold it and not go pee because she didnt want to miss out and that caused a bunch of accidents.

@Aria: We’ve gone through three similar sounding phases with DD. DD potty trained at 2.5 and she’s now about to be 5. Once was a fluke day with 4 full accidents. I asked the ped about UTI but without a fever she wanted to wait a couple days. No further accidents.

The cause of the other two times was that DD “figured out” that she could pee just a little in her underwear to hold off going potty. My daughter, the genius. This happened at about 4 and just this past weekend. She lost her privilege of getting to decide when she has to go potty.

No experience except with chronic UTIs in a young toddler. Ours were always febrile but there definitely are afebrile UTIs as well. That would be my guess.

My daughter has been potty trained for almost a year and suddenly the last two days she has been having constant accidents. Prior to this I think she’s only had a couple accidents since she potty trained (which only took one day). They are all very small accidents, like she’s leaking pee before she can get to the toilet. And it’s frequent, at least every half hour, and occasionally as soon as five minutes after she last peed. She poops pretty regularly every day so I don’t think she’s constipated. We have a doctor appointment for her tomorrow afternoon, but are there any experiences anyone can share in the meantime? She doesn’t have any other symptoms of a uti so I’m at a loss.
