Well, ladies, the compartment that the filter goes into was warped or some of the plastic broke or something. That caused the current filter to 'conform' to it and that's why it would only fit in there and not the new one. The water leaking was from the build-up of the filter not being in there correctly. So, new filter compartment put in and $290 later, the water and ice maker is working fine.

@Jennimac: Oh, okay! You'll have to let us know the outcome and what was wrong! Hopefully it's an easy fix! :)

@mediagirl: I'm going to have someone come next week. DH is working this weekend and I promised that I would come down. He has been looking forward to it, so I didn't want to say that I wasn't coming down. It will still be there the next week.

@MrsMccarthy: Thanks, honey!!!

@MamaMoose: Thanks...I hope it is an easy fix.

@Adira: It isn't the first time that I've changed it. I've done it before, so I don't know if I messed something up this time or what. Hopefully, it won't be too bad.

@artbee: Yes! It always happens like this. If it's not this, it's something else.

Is this the first time you've changed the water filter? Has this happened before when changing the water filter?

When we changed our water filter for the first time, we actually had a technician do it because he was already there fixing our fridge. He told us that when you change the water filter, you should let the water run for about a gallon or so of water to get all the old water out through the system and get rid of any air bubbles. If you don't do this, it could leak until it cycles through to the new water.

Hope this helps!

Yeah turning off the water supply won't hurt the fridge. It just means the water dispenser and the ice maker won't work so don't stress about that. Hopefully a repair man can easily fix whatever is wrong!

So, I went to change the water filter tonight and the fridge started leaking. I've now turned off the water supply, but I"m worried it will mess up the fridge, but if I didn't it would leak. I guess I"m going to have to call a repair man since hubby is out of town for work. :(
