@ladyfingers: ifyou wash them RIGHT before you use them then it's fine, there is no time for them to be exposed to anything. And washing involves just running them under water and wiping it with a paper towel, then crack it open!

My dad has chickens so we get some eggs from him, otherwise we found a farm that sells them to us for $2.50 a dzn! It can be hard to find though. I know of a website that has some listing if you're interested!

@Coco Bee: Oh I didn't know that! I'm confused though -- do you mean wash them, or don't wash them? Since you said washing them exposes them to bacteria...

@ladyfingers: oh very interesting.

Ifyou use fresh off the farm eggs then there is no risk of salmonella. I just learned this, but washing eggs is what exposes them to bacteria (the eggs are naturally coated with anprotectove barrier), so if you use fresh farm eggs ad wash them right before you use them then there is no risk! We make our own homemade mayo which is raw eggs, and I've never gotten sick using fresh eggs!

@Trailmix: lol DH said he almost said something to the guy while they were outside barbecuing. If she had said she was any earlier than 3 months, I probably would have caved lol. But I already told my two best friends, so we're worried about telling too many other people.

@Coco Bee: Yep, like StrawberryBee said -- I added warm milk to the egg yolks then heated the mixture back up on the stove to steaming until it's like a custard, but I didn't temp it to see if it heated to 160. I did taste a little but was kinda bummed I couldn't have any! I bought a vanilla bean and everything lol! The boys sure did enjoy it, though.

@StrawberryBee: that sounds delicious!! There are lots of non-egg recipes, it's called "Philadelphia Style." Then there's always fro-yo, sorbet... oh, and store-bought stuff. Meh ;-)

I'd have such a hard time not giving in...kudos to you!

Most ice cream recipes have tempered eggs in them, which always makes me worried that I haven't heated them enough. I prefer to use non-egg recipes (which may mean they technically no longer qualify as ice cream lol). This is one of my favorites, also good with a little instant coffee thrown in instead of the cinnamon (though the original recipe is pretty awesome as-is!):

I had that too. We were at a party and a friend was talking about how his wife was newly pregnant and said, "I bet nobody else can beat that news." My whole family was there, and they all knew, so we just sat there in silence. I felt bad because nobody said anything back to him!

I hear ya! My cousin announced that she's pregnant a couple of weeks ago. Her due date is one week after mine, but we're waiting until the end of the first trimester to make the big announcement to everyone. It's so hard keeping quiet!

OMG so our friends just came over and announced that they're expecting! It was so hard not to tell them. The worst part is that we had made homemade ice cream and after they announced it, she said, "The worst part is that I can't eat your ice cream because it has eggs in it!" Oh shit... I *am* new to this thing, because I didn't know I couldn't eat the ice cream :( So I had to "inconspicuously" not eat the ice cream, as well.

At one point, she asked if we were trying now that we moved into the house, and then said, "I was hoping you were going to announce it today too!" Arrrrrrgh. So hard.
