Even for H's 1st birthday, we already had less family members come since he was our 2nd kid.</p> <p>Our kids don't go to daycare, or else I could see us throwing C a friend party next month for her 3rd. Certainly for a first birthday, and probably for the second. I just went to yet another first birthday party where the kid was overwhelmed and sick of it, and everyone else was just hanging out oblivious. It really solidified my desire to do just a very small, low key family thing for that first birthday. </p> <p>My daughter is going to have her fourth birthday a month or two after her sister comes this summer, so I'm already thinking of really low key plans. We'll make some cupcakes, get some nice snacks, and take chalk and bubbles to a nearby park. We went out the dinner with family and then had friends around for a party. He will be 5. The problem is that his birthday falls between holidays at the end of the year, so it's always a busy time for everyone. But growing up I remember having friend parties and family parties. Neither were a huge to do or anything, just good and cake at our house. Her 2nd and 3rd we celebrated with immediate family only. I'm thinking for her fourth it might be fun to start throwing her friend parties! It would help cut down on cost to not invite extended family we don't regularly see anyway. </p>
