@DesertDreams88: I'm not sure our HOA would be too keen on installing a security door. Good question about the type of glass. Something to consider. I know we just paid for a bad ass security system (DH travels 75% of the time), but not sure if it's all a waste if the glass can shatter so quickly. In FL, when we tinted our windows for insulation & energy efficiency there was also a product on the market for security, shatter proof tinting. That may be the first step.

@DesertDreams88: I agree with you. Which is why I would love those doors but would never have them. My DH travels so I don't feel comfortable with a glass door. We have a little glass but it is at the top, and someone couldn't break it and reach the handle to unlock. But I think glass doors like that are too pretty to put stuff on!

@Smurfette: haha I'm surprised by our different perspectives, I would be TOTALLY freaked out by people being able to see into my house!!

Is it security glass?? If not, I personally would think of replacing the glass or installing a security door. Not to be a downer, but having that much glass in your front door really ups your chances of having a break-in (FIL is a police officer in a city). Too easy to break your glass and reach in for the handle. We have a metal "security door" and a regular door - both have deadbolts and click locks, for a total of 4 locks. When we want sunlight / fresh air we open the regular door, but not the security door. See pics for what I mean for security door.

@looch: love your suggestion!! I've wanted a peephole to see who is outside my door, but I didn't want to get a whole new door!

I have no way of seeing out my door, it's solid wood and we don't have side lights. We're thinking of installing a camera but for now I just open the door to see who is there  I wouldn't put anything on those windows but if you have to, I'd just get them frosted.

@looch: not a bad idea at all. the command centers are already installed. I'm going to see if the acrylic company has a tempered glass option- maximizes the privacy in, but I would still need to see out.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: when you're in the house, you can hook it up to a kindle that you can turn into a command center. That's what I do, as I never have my phone on my when i am in the house.

@looch: having a camera at the front door isn't a bad idea except that would require me to always have my phone with me (or at least know where it is).

@avivoca: no, I know *I* have to love it. I could probably have frosting or more tint applied to the LESS design, which may block folks from seeing directly into the house.

Why do you need to see who's outside your door? Presumably if you were close enough to see who was outside your door they could see you looking and then would know you just weren't opening the door, no?

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I never think about that because people don't usually come to my door. Could you have it mostly frosted but leave a perimeter of clear glass? It's really up to you and your style, you have to be the one who loves it.

Our front doors are a set of six-window pane panel French doors. Without window coverings you can see right into the house. The stairs open to the foyer, so there is no way to sneak upstairs to put real clothes on if we are caught off guard by someone at the door.

Right now clunky blinds provide privacy, but we are getting an acrylic product applied to the doors that will resemble stain glass. Of course, I can't decide on which design to pick. DH is no help- he likes Less, but it's my call. The shaded area in the designs are colored tints. ETA: the black thick lines in the design indicate the wood separating each window pane.

A) Less diamonds- gives the doors a cleaner look, but provides less privacy in the top and bottom window panes.

B) More diamonds- is busier, but the extra diamonds in the top and bottom panes provide a bit more privacy.
