@TurtleDoves: Thanks for the suggestion. I am storing most of it in a 2nd fridge in the garage. That freezer almost never gets opened. So FX'd it can act like a deep freezer? Thanks for the tip on mixing with bananas or squash. I like that idea!

I threw out ~30 oz., bc the way I initially stored my BM did not keep it as fresh as I liked. Boo...

After doing some research, I decided to live on the edge- I put my pumped stash in the back of the freezer and have used it up to the 1 year point. It has stayed consistently frozen, and looks normal after defrosting. He drinks it just fine, so I went with it.

@shopaholic: I really dot think she will take a soppy cup very well at 6m. Most of it spills out the side of their mouth, this defeati the purpose of not wasting it;)

I suggest a deep freezer. Or use them to mix into her purees and use the oldest first. She will probably LOVE solids, so you could mix the BM into mashed bananas or with squash or something.

I would see if there is a local momma you could donate too! For a mom that needs milk, any amount is a blessing!

I tried to donate the 18oz I had stashed, but wasn't ever able to hook up with the lady to drop if off before it "expired"... it's sad to lose milk! :(

I recently threw away 60 oz. It hurt but we don't have a deep freezer and I should have just donated it a long time ago.

I already posted in another thread about wasted pumped milk. I do realize we are coming up to that 6 month "safe" period on frozen breast milk. I have a small-ish stash of frozen breast milk since K was born, including a couple with the true liquid gold from the first few days after K's birth! I DEFINITELY don't want those to go to waste! It's just so tough to decide when to thaw and give her the frozen milk. Since I'm a SAHM and EBF, we've never had the need to dip into my freezer stash yet. I'm thinking when we start solids and sippy cups, it'll be easier to get her to drink the frozen milk?

Has anyone ever had to discard frozen breast milk after 6 months? I don't have SO much to donate either.
