Full-fat all the way! I also prefer non-homogenized milk, but DH hates it, so I had to stop buying it :(

what are they adding to the low-fat and no-fat milk to make it taste better/like full-fat? (hint: nothing good). Which one is more like the natural state it came out of the cow? (hint: it starts with F).

That goes for anything low-fat/no-fat, by the way. Ie: Butter over margarine, sour cream, etc.

I'm with Softcream. I think that the more we process or alter our foods with nutritional goals in mind, we attempt to fool our body's natural regulatory system, which actually works counter to our health goals.

Just as an example, Brian Wansink of Cornell University published a study concluding that fat-free labels actually caused people to eat 16%-23% more total calories.

Mr. Bee has a recent blog post that begins to address this, but focusing on actually enjoying food vs eating as "fuel" can do wonders to our health, not to mention being lots more fun.

So, to go back to the original question...even from a calorie-wise perspective, reduced/low/non fat might not be the way to go.

We buy as full fat as possible. Dairy products contain fat-soluble vitamins, so if you reduce the fat, you miss out on a lot of the nutrition!

full fat because it tastes good. and when it tastes good, it's more satisfying so you don't need tons of it. this goes for other foods too, not just dairy.

We do a mix, I guess- whole or 2% yogurt, 2% milk, and full fat cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese, butter, etc. oh- and 1/2 & 1/2!
I grew up on 2% milk, so it just tastes best to me. I sort of mix it up with the yogurt, usually 2% Greek plain, or whole milk regular plain.

full fat, raw if I can get it!

I generally think that food is best for you as unaltered as possible. Food should be consumed as close to its natural state as possible!! :) so I don't eat anything that's been changed - whether it be lower fat, enriched, GMO etc :)

I compromise on milk with DH and get 1% but I eat full fat everything else. Same as @mrs. superhero, I don't like products where good stuff is taken out and replaced by bad stuff. Especially skim, that is just disgusting if you read about what they put in there to make it look and taste like "real" milk. I'm not drinking a gallon of milk a day and drowning everything I consume in butter, so in moderation, full-fat dairy isn't my biggest issue.

I've been moving towards the full fat versions, not least because I've read that women should have 1 serving of full fat dairy a day while TTC. Plus, it tastes better usually. And, in terms of cheese, like I said on the other post, the full fat is better for your lactose intolerance. Yogurt I go back and forth on- it's hard to find full fat! I usually end up with low fat. I never have nonfat dairy (other than yogurt) because it's gross tasting and not worth it.

I'm doing a version of the Paleo diet right now, so I am not shying away from fat. I buy full fat because it is "whole food" rather than processed to remove fat (and nutrients). However, I try to limit my dairy for that reason. For example, I use half as much cheese in recipes as I used to, so I am getting the same amount of fat from dairy as when I used low fat.
