@gingerbebe: Your plans sound so fun! Sometimes I selfishly wish that our families lived further away so we could have our "own" holiday once in awhile.

Our plans right now are:
- Color eggs tomorrow morning
- Meet up with my friend and her LO tomorrow afternoon
- Baskets and egg hunt in our house Sunday morning, with our own little holiday tradition of cinnamon rolls for breakfast
- MIL's for brunch with DH's family (and probably more egg hunts and baskets)
- My aunt's house for dinner with my extended family (and probably more baskets....groan)

At least the good part about all the family close by is that we don't have to cook anything if we don't want to.

Last night we went to the Holy Thursday Mass and my son got a kick out of watching my husband have his feet washed by the priest. :)

Today is Stations of the Cross and we'll probably make some Resurrection rolls for a snack.

Saturday is the church egg hunt and Vigil, so I'll get out our Easter decorations and put them up that afternoon.

Sunday we're having a big lunch and dyeing eggs.

@gingerbebe: Your plans sound amazing! I grew up jewish so this is all kind of new to me. DW's parents are in town and we just moved (like 4 days ago) to a new house, so it's all a little bit chaotic, but we did get DS (16 months) an easter basket with little toys, and we are going to hide a few eggs in the backyard. Then "easter" lunch sunday at a nice italian place before my in-laws leave monday!

I'm excited for easter for all the same reasons! Plus last year it got totally derailed because we had to take a last minute international trip where Christianity is the minority so we did diddly squat.

Saturday we are going to a local egg-hunt that also has pictures with the Easter Bunny. DS is OBSESSED with eggs because of YouTube!
After nap we'll dye eggs.

Sunday will be egg and basket hunt in our apartment. I'm more excited for that than the bigger event Saturday.
I got hot cross buns for breakfast.
Church
Lunch I might just do bunny pancakes or bunny PBJ or something. And easter eggs of course.
Dinner I am making a ham, these ridiculously simple but amazing butter roasted potatoes, and a veggie of some sort. Maybe corn on the cob and asparagus or something.
Dessert is TBD but I may be a lazy ass and just get cute cupcakes from a local bakery.

Sounds great! I hear you on the holidays where you can plan the menu, activities, etc. I love menu planning and hosting things in my own home.

We are headed down to my parents on Friday so I can help my sister do her taxes hahahaha. Then Saturday we are going to a petting zoo with bunnies and having Easter dinner with my side of the family. Sunday is egg hunt at church, service, church reception, and lunch at my in laws. My husband has to go home to go to work at dinner time so I am dropping my kids off at my parents house and going out for drinks with my best friend from high school (it will be my first girls night out since having the baby!), then spending the night there again.

So, I'm ridiculously excited for Easter and I finally figured out why.

Part of it is because DS1 is 30 months old and finally old enough to appreciate holidays (even Christmas was sorta WTF for him at 27 months). Part of it is obviously because its a holiday important to our faith. But I realized its also a holiday that just belongs to ME and our little family.

I realize this isn't the case for everyone, but we live far away from our families so every Thanksgiving or Christmas we are hauling out to see them. I don't control the menu or activities or gifts, we're sleeping in a hotel or someone's guest room. And its exhausting. And birthdays inevitably leave out one of the kids and its also catering somewhat to guests and cleaning up our house, etc. More exhaustion.

But Easter is about how much Jesus loves us and springtime and its just our little family having a blast together. And our schools and jobs give us time off for it too. DS1's school is closing at 1pm on Friday and he has Monday off. DH teaches at a Catholic university, so they are off for Easter as well. Its going to be a fun holiday where Mommy and Daddy can spoil the kids and eat lots of treats and dress up in cute outfits. Church is going to be special, lunch is going to be special, there will be egg hunts - so fun!

So far, I've planned:

- Dinner out as a family on Good Friday.
- Strawberry picking at the local organic u-pick farm on Saturday. Lots of mud and stomping and eating.
- Easter baskets chock full of each boy's favorite treats and toys that they will wake up to on Sunday morning.
- Easter egg hunt in our own backyard (he will have one at school on Friday, so he will get a trial run).
- We're having some close friends the boys are obsessed with coming for dinner on Sunday.
- Big Easter dinner on fun Easter plates with Easter napkins, etc.
- Strawberry buttermilk cake for dessert with strawberries we picked from the farm and lots of sprinkles and Peeps on top.
- DS1 is getting a zillion tubs of play doh in his basket, so there will be a lot of crazy play doh action with all the cookie cutters in the house.

What kind of fun activities are you guys planning this weekend?
