@looch: I was going to suggest this too.
I'm part of a volunteer org that helped create the first diaper bank in our county, which is always seeking donations. A diaper drive is a great way to help get both parents and kids involved.

@BelugaBean: I work at a children's hospital and the parents advisory council helps do free meals for parents once a month (I think). I am pretty sure different people or organizations sponser or make the food. They will make an announcement for all parents to head to x space for a free dinner and it's really great for them to both be cared for a little and avoid another expensive mediocre dinner in the cafeteria.

@mrs.shinerbock: That sounds awesome!!! I would definitely go to that :)

What about asking local restaurants to have a night where they donate part of the proceeds to you? I know Tropical Smoothie does this and a lot of locally owned places as well near me.

We did a charity wine tasting event with a group I was involved in before I had kids. We got the wine donated, bought some snacks and charged $15/person.

Are you looking for cash only ideas, or would you be open to organizing volunteering activities?

Cash ideas: chili (or soup, dessert, chowder - you get the idea) cook off, ice cream sundae bar at an event, contact local fairs/events and see if you can have a good table there to raise $$, host a craft/vendor fair, organize a fundraising event and see what parents and local businesses could donate.

You could also organize volunteering events like making snack bags for local elementary schools, "weekend bags" of food to be passed out at schools, school supply drives and packing up supplies for kids, organize a holiday giving campaign / sponsor some local families and kids.

When I worked full time in a school we used to pay a dollar to dress down (yay for a jeans day!) to raise money for Relay for Life. We had stickers for people to wear and some people also donated more than just a dollar. I know a few local banks and businesses did the same. Maybe you could contact local businesses about something like that? That's the only successful fundraiser I have personally done. Our bake sale was a flop! ;) I have seen Zumba-thons raise quite a bit of money and catered lunches for a cause at school (for teachers and staff). My favorite fundraiser locally is a touch a truck event organized by the Junior League. It's huge and really well organized. They charge $5 per person and get a great turn out.

I wasn't sure what board to put this in so if it's the wrong one, feel free to move it!

In my local MOMS club, we're trying to come up with charity ideas. We have a few causes we'd love to donate to but we're falling short on interactive ideas for fundraising. In the past we've done a Zumbathon and raised a good amount of money through that but the resources aren't really there anymore.

Also, I've been part of bake sales in the past that just fell flat. Any other creative ideas? Something to get members more involved than just sending in money is what we're looking for!
