Would it help at all to refinish the dark dresser? Could you paint it to better match the rest of the decor and use it to store baby's things?

@T.H.O.U.: all good ideas. I still don't know what to do though! Haha. I was leaning towards ditching the dark dresser, maybe I'll put it in our back room for a while and see if it's doable without.

Third option I think would be to swap the brown dresser for the green pen with the changing top on it from your sons room. They have similar amounts of space/storage but the lower changing storage would give you a place to change the baby. It looks like the green drawers could be repainted easily.

Another alternative idea would be to do like @gingerbebe: said and remove the white over head built ins and put some higher open floating shelves. Again I would keep the dark dresser and move what you have in the mounted cabinet into that dark dresser. Again maybe stain the iron shelves and the long dresser to all match.

@mrsbubbletea: I don't think you need to get rid of the dark brown dresser if it fits! In a small house storage is key and I would be hesitant to get rid of any storage.

I liked your idea of just using the unfinished dresser to store diapers/wipes etc and then changing baby on the bed or whatever.

I would consider actually using some gel stain to stain the dresser dark like the other one so they would go together better.

Oh and that dumb little shelf above the dresser was supposed to be gone ages ago anyways! It used to be above the bed when we had the room arranged differently... no idea why he left it!

@gingerbebe: that's a pretty good suggestion. I don't really like those shelves he built anyways... of course that gets into a sticky area! they are pretty full after emptying the old dresser though. So I need to seriously go through and get rid of stuff! Which is on the to do list anyways... I guess first step is getting rid of the dark stained dresser. Hope I can find it a good home!

If I were you, I would leave your son's room alone.

I would actually remove the cabinets your husband built above the wide dresser as well as that little charging shelf you have mounted next to it. Instead, I would mount a few short floating shelves or a smaller cabinet on the wall the charging shelf is on now for diapers, lotion, etc. That would free up overhead space so you can have the changing pad on top of the dresser and just change the baby there.

I need advice, embarrassed to share photos of my cluttered home, but I think it's too hard to explain without photos.

We have a small two bedroom and new baby is going into our room. My son's room has a wardrobe and changing table dresser which go together decently. Our room has a big dark stained classic dresser which I've always loved, but it's just not the same style as any of the other furniture. I already cleared it out, so we can get by without it. We also have a low profile unfinished wide ikea dresser which stores a lot for its shape, and some cabinets which my husband built that sort of go with it.

Here's my ideas for making "space" for the baby stuff (changing table and diapers). I don't need a lot of space because I can make some extra space in my son's dresser or wardrobe. But I want a little something in our room, if necessarily not a traditional changing table (I think we can just keep the pad on our dresser and move it to the bed for diaper changes).
1. Get rid of dark dresser. Get something that will serve for some baby storage and a changing table in our bedroom.
Keep son's furniture the same.
2. Keep dark dresser, and either store it somewhere else for the future or just leave it in our room?
3. Trade dark dresser and light green changing table dresser in my and my son's rooms.
More options please!
