I think she's one of those babies that need to let off steam before she sleeps. The quickest cry has been 3 minutes. At night we have a bedtime routine of stroller walk (because the dog needs a walk anyways), then a soak in his tub (I don;t wash him, he just hangs out), and then pajamas, nurse and sleep. Lately, he has started crying at the pajama time....like, screaming! I figure he now knows that means sleep time and he wants to get a cry in before sleep. Or other times I think he's worried I'll forget to feed him. Who knows what is in those little baby heads; today he cried when I took the first bite out of my crunchy celery. I then swaddle him and put him down and he cries a little more (not real crying, just more like fussing). He sometimes fights the swaddle and cries while I do it but calms down. I try to give him a paci and sometimes he will take it and sometimes not. Nap time usually starts with him doing that for a while, then he starts to fuss and then he starts to cry. The parents who aren't "that parent" are always the ones that worry that they are. I know I am so strict with my son while out. And I have gotten a few compliments that have helped with my confidence when out with him. </p> <p>When we are out, I don't even play games. We nurse him to sleep. It works and it minimizes the fuss. At home we do the normal routines.</p> <p>Kids know when they are somewhere else. My son has always slept better at daycare than at home. It's cause it's daycare. I think around 8 months she finally decided napping wasn't so bad. I would start rocking her to sleep and then she'd start with the loud fussing/protesting. I think she's going to have a meltdown, but as soon as i put her down she starts sucking her fingers and then falls fast asleep. I know your LO doesn't take a paci, but does he use anything to soothe himself to sleep?</p> <p>I know how you feel about having all eyes on you. I hate it when i'm at the mall, hoping she'll fall asleep in the stroller and she starts fussing/crying because she's tired. The first month, he was always sleeping. The second month, he would stay awake for really crazy-long periods of time (for his age) but he wasn't fussy. The third month is when I realized he actually needed to nap, and what was worse is that he needed my help to nap AND was going to fight me every time. </p> <p>It is nice to know that you have a similar pattern. It's a really bad day when plan B and plan C fail. She hates going down for naps, so when I start rocking her to put her down, she screams, kicks, and tries to fight me. It makes me feel like I'm being a terrible mom... but I know that my baby needs a nap. We stopped rocking him to sleep early on (6-7 weeks) because he would fuss in our arms. That was our cue to just put him down and let him work things out on his own. Since we stopped helping him fall asleep at such a oung age, when he cries we just leave him (unless he is hysterical) and he falls asleep in 2-20 minutes. </p>
